Not "Where to buy", but rather "Where on the engine is this thing?!"
I feel silly, but can't find it.

On mine it is not on the engine. It is on the frame rail up high on the curb side just behind the exhaust exit point.

The oil pressor sender on the 94pt is on the frame rail below the starter. I have a rubber oil lineconnecting to the 8vblock with an elbow on the 8vblock.. since the DDec computer reads oil pressure, the out put of the sender must go to the computer then computer controls the dash gauge, or op sender sends to both in parellel??? then again it could be that the dash gauge is reading a different sender?? if you ran the bus for any length of time with no oil pressure on the gauge, and didnt register a code on ddec, that could be a hint .

here is apage on the ddecII opsender repairfrom a site I use to help with some of the old crap I use on jobsites. they have documents used by the military for the repair of field equipment. DetroitDiesel is a big military supplier. I like the plain language of the repair procedures.

No wonder I couldn't find it. Thanks for the responses, I should be
able to find it there. I assume it's connected with a hard line?
Anyone have a picture handy?

OK, I think I found it. Is this it? : http://www.ryanwright.com/tmp/sensor.jpg

Found that sucker on the frame rail hiding next to the muffler. If
this IS it, I have questions:

1. It (the big one) looks exactly like the sensor on my Yanmar genset,
which I replaced earlier this year AND happen to have an extra of!
Anyone know if they're cross-compatible before I swap them and fry
something?

2. What's that little one with the orange wire for? Are there two oil
pressure sensors on this engine? If so, why?

3. Looks like there are a couple of extra ports on that manifold...
can I simply hook up my mechanical gauge I just bought to install in
the engine compartment to one of them?

Thanks!

I believe the large one is the sender for the gauge. In the files is a Teleflex cross reference which should have the gauge value and the pn. I put most of that together, Curt added info and it is believed to be correct. The other sensor is most likely a low oil pressure sender to give you a stop engine light in the event oil pressure goes below 8psi. This is what I am into now for my DDEC II system. Since you do not have DDEC your BB manual should give you some ideal how your warning system works, if in fact you have one. If you do not have a warning system, disregard because I don't have a clue. I do not want to steer you wrong, but I really think that is what it is. And no your genset gauge has a different temperature index and the sender will give you a false reading.

one could be a sensor and one a switch. the sensor (potentiometer
sensor) would have a standing resistance that changes as you add
pressure and used for a gauge. the switch would be open or closed
and are commonly used for idiot lights and murphy fail safe
systems???????

Hello Ryan,

"2. What's that little one with the orange wire for? Are there two oil
pressure sensors on this engine? If so, why?"

That's a Kysor 3 psi pressure switch, there are 2 on mine, one on each
side of the oil pressure sending unit. One side passes ground over to
the two solenoids mounted a foot further down on the rail, and cuts
off the ground after 3 psi has been exceeded. (Perhaps so you can't
turn the starter over after the engine has started running.) One of
those two solenoids supplies the positive power to the starter
solenoid, while the other supplies the ground to the starter solenoid,
Bluebird redundancy(??)

I don't recall tracing out the second 3 psi switch, perhaps, if yours
is the same, you will figure out where that switch passes it's ground?

Hope this helps.
