Greg,
Well, don't know yet. will find out Mon or Tue.
Almost at the summit ofCanyon CreekPass the dreaded "DO NOT SHIFT" light and the accompanying beep beep... happened. Keep in mind that I still have Ron's Calgary situation fresh in my mind. I stopped on the shoulder and soon the warning light went away. So, I started up to go the last 500' or so to the actual summitwhenthe warningstarted again. This time I shut down the engine after getting the transmission code (44 - "C" solenoid circuitry) and called the Allison shop in Medford. The guy advised that the tranny would go into "get home mode" and that I probably wouldn't have very much power but could make it the 50 or so miles to their shop. After starting again, all seemed to be fine and stayed that way clear into their shop. Their problem is that they don't have that many guys (2 or 3 I believe) who can work on these older units and that's why they couldn't look at immediately I guess. Anyway, I will get it in on Mon or Tue (or as soon as they can take me).
It may be just a fleeting thing but I want them to have a look. If there is nothing detectableanymore they won't find anything I suppose, we'll just have to wait and see. The service guy wanted me to drive as much as possible till then to see if the warning light would come back so we drove back 15 miles to a state park, the only place that had any space. Everything still normal appearing. We will see - or not.
Interestingly, I did find one problem that started the morning we left home. I was having to start and shut off the engine from the rear. New switch last year, wiring still looked good, nothing out of place. I was justliving with it with the idea I'dfixing it when we got to Yuma. Guess what - it was the dreaded A/T switch syndrome. AGAIN. After all these years with one of these beasts. What can I say, oldtimers disease? Very common around here.

Here is a link to the owners manual for the MTB 741from Allisons site. Allison sells the troubleshooting guide under document number TS2712EN and refer to it also as Troubleshooting CEC1 (commercial electronic control 1).I believe Western States Transchanged the troubleshooting publicationa bit and posted it for their customers. Here is a 30 page thread from a generic rv site where an Allison Technicianhas been answering posted questions.



unique things I found about the Bluebird/Allison

  • power fuse to the atec ( bluebird acronym for AllisonTransmissionElectronicControl) the retarder trigger for stop lights, share the atec powerfused link.?????
  • when you key up, headlights ddec, atec and the TV 12/120v relay power up. that relay may be a big amp hog???

    A recent inherent problem with the 90's "do not shift" thanks to JoeBlankenship and RadioshackDon turns out to be some issue with the head lights wire or switch???



    I'm headed out to have a look at the 09 Wanderlodge in PomonaCa. hope you fine some of the info helpful. at the least you will gain an understanding of what Mondays tech should know and look for.
