I keep my coach plugged in all the time when it is stored, but utilize a timer on the chargers. The timer is set to allow charging 24 hours (1 day) a week. The 1 day per week is based upon the info in my BB manual.

thought these smart chargers were suppose to eliminate this water
refill problem? I was wondering if anyone here just puts a timer on
there internal charger to say turn it on and oft for so many hours a
day? Or would you suggest that I just put a separate switch in my
coach to turn oft the charger when I deam that the coach is up to full
charge. I do not think there are any 12 volt items being used when I'm
not in the coach.

Anyway I thank Steve for giving me the charger unit and I'm sure that I
can install that second switch befor the charger to just turn it oft.

I replaced my two BB Battery boilers, (bb chargers) several years ago with 2 Xantrex smart chargers. One is for EAST travel, one is for WEST travel. (This is an old Piedmont M-440 Aircraft system). I watch the charger first come on after the coach has bee sitting a few hours just on battery power. The charger starts to go from 12V to 13.8 or higher, it depends on the ambient (outside) temperature. The amps go usually right up to 30 plus and then decline as the battery fills up. When the battery is FULL, the charger drops to 2/+ - amps and the volts go down to FLOAT, 13.2V, again it depends on the temperature. I leave the coach plugged in for weeks and the batteries never need servicing, the charger floats them to keep them full.
I suspect that your smart charger lost its smarts, (like its broke or at least not operating properly) otherwise you would
never need to cut off or disconnect the charger.
My old BB Battery boilers did exactly what you described in your post. I used a lot of distilled water then. If you have any questions, here is the forum
