The bridge over the Yellowstone to the island that I have been staying
on has failed. Fortunately, earlier today, I moved all my stuff to the
fairgrounds. The engineer that came and inspected it this afternoon
around 4 found that a section had sunk about 18 inches. Thus the only
way off the island was by foot. Now, the sheriffs office has prohibited
foot traffic.
I suspect this decrepit old bridge feeling the force of 25,000 cubic
feet per second has finally failed. When I drove the coach across this
bridge 4 years ago, you could feel the pucker in my lower torso.
All the "locals"- those in the "know'-- said that this bridge would
last forever. Unfortunately, in this writers opinion, the only things
that get better in life are: fine wine- preferably boxed- and cheese.
