I need to replace the doide in the generator battery charging circuit,
does anyone know the specifications for that item?

Scott,

Tom Sorrentino and I just replaced ours with a Blue Sea Systems
"Battery Link ACR". It works flawlessly- linking the two banks only
when voltage is over 13.4 and separating them at levels below that. It
was literally a "drop-in" replacement- although I used a little
heavier wire for those "just in case" moments. There is zero voltage
drop- my generator has never cranked as fast as it does now!

Scott,

I have to agree with what Shane said. I would just upgrade to the
Battery Link ACR. My generator has never cranked as fast as it does
now either! I could probably find the old diode I took out, if you
want it.

What does this cost and where do I get it?

Scott,

I got mine at westmarine. Their part number 6917124 $77.99. One of
the better upgrades I've done. I think Gardner Yeaw did one also.

Gardner Yeaw

Scott,
Yes, I did install one on my '78. It is nice to have a visual
indication that things are working, and the genie does seem to crank
faster. I destroyed my original generator battery when I forgot to
open the disconnect switch. The old diode or whatever let it drain
to zero. The new ACR should prevent such mishaps as well.

I just got one off ebay, came out to about the same price with
shipping and tax...

See this sellers store, "internet mall" for details.

BTW, Im not associated with him at all! So YMMV :}

I just finished hooking up a solar panel and charge controller this
afternoon, it was putting over 4A into the batteries... I hope this
will keep the batteries charged up since where its stored I cant plug
it in.

Anyone purchase and install the ON-OFF-ON
switch for the Battery Link ACR?

It works just fine without it. If you want another switch for the
dash, you'll only need another 40' of wire and a new LED. It is a
pretty straightforward install. Just to be on the safe side, I also
installed a resettable marine grade 80 amp breaker on the hot side.
