Pete, I don't know of a source, but Ron Marabito purchased a muffler about 6 months ago. It IS a job and takes 2+ people. Or- a strong teenager. Bim Burt, Ron and myself struggled to get the new one aligned with the new flex piping. There is a lot more to it then just a quick removal. The muffler has supports inside the cavity that houses the muffler. Also, the flex pipe by the turbo has a sender located in the rear of that pipe. You can't see that from the rear. Tell the guys to go slow, lot's of items to be aware of.

I have a 95 PT-42 with the DD Series 60 Engine.

The muffler is totally shot (and probably dangerous). CCW has been
doing some work -- slow parts receipt has kept me here over the week
end (bummer)... but they're doing a good job. I'm pleased, so far,
with the service.

Ran into a problem with the muffler. After making many calls, they
could only find a source from Detroit Diesel on a "made to order"
basis, with a 7 to 10 day delivery. (EEEK! I _really_ don't want to
spend another two weeks sitting in their lot!)

Does anyone know of a truck/heavy equipment muffler shop in the Los
Angeles basin that can fabricate a muffler that would be a reasonable
replacement for my coach?

I would think that it's not that much of a tough job... the only
thing I can see is that it has a bend in the pipe at the lower end to
connect up....

Any ideas?

BTW, be sure to inspect those mufflers. The end on mine allowed rain
to flood down into the muffler -- couldn't have helped it ... and it
developed a hole at the bottom end where the water likely pooled.
Also, the top end seems to allow a puddle to form -- and that end is
rusted through as well.

There are plenty of truck parts suppliers over in the Colton Rialto Fontana Pomona area.
I don't know who is best any longer,but Colton Truck Parts was a leader in supply a few years ago.
Gregory is probably out somewhere,but I am sure he will help you when hechecks in.

The CCW guys are pretty good. CCW has hired several folks with
significant RV experience and they're learning about Blue Birds very
quickly. When they looked over the muffler installation, they went on
the phone to Ft Valley to get info on the installation, so they have
a pretty good idea what's required.

The only problem is finding a replacement.

Worst case, I'll have to have the new one shipped to my home, then
take the bus and muffler to a shop in the Bay Area to have the work
done. (I don't have 2 people nor do I have a strong teenager.) I can
see that the installation will be tough to do...

Not sure how loud it would be. I doubt the noise would bother _me_ as
I'm plenty far from the source -- but CA is pretty picky about overly
noisy vehicles and I'm quite likely to get pulled over with a
straight pipe .... <sigh>

Sorry, no help with muffler contacts. Is putting a straight

pipe on it acceptable? That's what I'd do to mine if I were

in your predicament. You could run it for a while, pending

the new muffler, or live with it if it's not too loud, which I

don't think it would be.

I cant see why it would take that long for The CCW RV guys to fix
it. they may not be consulting the guys in the custom coach
fabricting department. sound like they have their own lunch and
locker room.

Riversides oldest muffler shop is DeAnza 951-684-5424. I would call
them first to find out where to go to have big pipes bent . DeAnza
wont do bigrigs but they are connected ,honest and helpfull.

AZ bus is 3 miles from you and they are a BlueBird dealer. AZ= 951-
781-7188.

Prevost has a service facility ( MiraLoma, aprox 8 miles)951-360-2550

Colton truck supply is 4 miles from you their number is 909 888-8300.

I'm close by 951-830-5997

You're right ... they have a separate BB service facility (at the
front of their property) and the crew doesn't much interface with the
rest of CCW. The only apparent interaction occurs when the "roach
coach" arrives at break time...

I'm also suffering from a service manager who's been on the job here
for about a week... so I don't think he's as fully aware of
opportunities as he should be.

I've found that Dynaflex, located in Commerce, CA, is a manufacturer
of heavy duty mufflers and accessories (Colton Truck Supply lists
them as one of their suppliers) and they have an extensive catalog --
give them the measurements and they have the components. It looks to
me as if CCW could just pull the muffler, measure it up, and order
the necessary pieces from DynaFlex (or through CTS).

I overheard the service manager and he kept asking about "blue bird
mufflers" and getting "no don't have it" ... I think he may have been
going about the process in the wrong way. I plan to discuss this with
him on Monday morning.

(I was offline for several days due to a computer glitch that I
finally solved. Dumb Verizon software was giving me an incorrect
error message that led me astray for awhile. Now that I'm online, I'm
beginning to find a considerable number of potential opportunities.)

I also note that in the BB section waiting room, there is a bus
industry magazine that reproduced a CCW press release discussion how
they converted a bunch of transit busses from ground level to rooftop
exhaust systems. I can't imagine that CCW doesn't have the capability
onsite to bend up some exhaust pipe.... <sigh>

Macy was in Ft Valley this week, and is expected to be "in" on Monday
-- I think I'll have a word or two with him as well...

While the CCW folks have been decent to me, they sure could use a
dump station on their facility...

I think you know as well as the rest of us is that "you don't need a Blue Bird muffler, you need a muffler for a Blue Bird".
It may sound ridiculous,but it is the way it is said whether or not you get what you want.
I think Monday morning will be a more resourceful experience.
