I am working on my 87 FC with an 8K onan. I have no power with the onan
running. My AC meters don't register when the gen. switch is on. I have
checked at the electrical control box on the onan, and I have good
voltage there while it is running. I am in the process of checking the
the selector switch.It is a pia to get to. Are there any circut breaker
on the AC side of the generator? Does anyone have any tips on trouble
shooting this?

Ron,
There should be a double 40 or 5 amp breaker in the bay
or in the next adjacent, rear most bay, driver side.

Hi Ron; Have you checked the double 35A breakers in the compartment
to the rear of the Onan?
Try 'cycling' the transfer switch between the different positions.
Check for loose or corroded connections.
Could it be that white plastic connector plug on back of control
panel needs to be reseated?
Recheck anything which you have worked on recently.

Ron; Correction...my 8 KW Onan has double 60 A breaker.
I just looked at my Generator...check those two 'red' switches
labeled DC charging Bkr and DC control Bkr and the round button
labeled Fault Breaker, (on the Onan control panel).

I can't seem to find those double breakers. I have checked in every
bay and closet. Are they in a regular breaker box? I have 120 volts
comming out of the box next box with the start switch and DC
breakers. I got the selector switch out and I have no generator power
at the switch. I guess i will keep looking.

Hi Dick,
Good to hear from you.I checked both of those DC breakers, they seem
to be working ok.I can't find that double AC breaker. Its not in my
rear bay with all the cords. It seems every year coach is a little
different. Hopfully someone with an 87 FC will chime in.

Ernie, All the 87-89Fc with the exception of one prototype 87FC35 have
fixed 8KW Onan generators. These Onans do not slide out, they are
fixed mounted to a sub frame in a compartment on the left rear side of
the bus. Only one of the many differences in thse year coaches. The
prototype 87FC had I believe the 12.5KW mounted behind the mid entry
door like the other FC coaches. Another difference in these coaches
most of them only had 2 roof mounted AC units and a few had sunroofs.

Ron, Just like Bill Pape's unit my breaker box is on the left wall to
the left rear compartment where the power cords are stored. I bet if
you crawl under your bus you may find the breaker box somewhere behind
the generator or maybe in the box with the big blower fan that is
mounted behind the propane tank area. I find it hard to beleave you
don't have a seperate breaker box between the generator and the shore
power selector switch. You might want to check with Robert Britton he
has a 87FC.
