Derk,

If you are getting 120 volts on both legs you're getting 240 volts from the
genset. Sounds like the fan (blower on mine) is not getting
current or is defective.

Ok I'm confused, if there is no thermostat relay to turn the fan motor
on how will the diesel engine get up to operating temp? The other reply
says that it in the neck set which is where?

The perkins engine has a thermostat valve in the return to the radiator
like most engines, doesn't open until the engine is warm enough to
require radiator cooling.

I have a '85 12.5 Kohler and from the neck to the expansion tank is
mounted a Kysor thermo switch. There is a 1/2" pipe coming off the top
of the block that tee's , one to the expansion tank, the other is where
the switch is mounted. That is how mine is set up. Not saying yours is
that way. I will look at mine tonight to see if there is a thermostat.
I do not know what they did in '79 just trying to help.

Ok the the electric fan on the radiator is suppose to run all of the
time the genset is on, if the genset is making 220 and the thermostat
opens and closes like it should. How can I tell if I am making 220? I
know I am getting 115 out of the genset.

Hi Bill in Roanoke,

Just curious,
I thought all 87,88, 89FC's had the
8.0 k Onan.

The 8.0 Onan became standard in the FC in '88, streetside, along with
2 roof A/Cs.

The 12.5kw on a streetside slideout (side-bath) or curbside (rear
bath) was still optional as were triple roof A/Cs.
