I have seen a few BB's with the Detroit Diesel Electronic Controls box
that is on the dash with a display, and 4 buttons... What does this
display? Performance data(MPG, ect), or just engine data(oil press,
RPM, ect)?

Is this unit adaptabile to older 'Birds that does not have one? --(For
ex 1987+ PT's) w/Detroit? I believe 1986 was the last year they were
non-electronic.
If so, Where do you get them? Price? Installation?

Thanks,

I have seen that unit in pictures also but know nothing about it. You may be able to use VMSpc from Silverleaf depending on the year. It displays on your laptop. I use VMSpc and others do also, so I have read.

I believe the first year for the 8V92 electronic control was 1988 . Our 'Bird is an '87 and no DDEC.

Silverleaf usability begins with DDEC-II. I don't know what, if any, BB models
used DDEC-I, but the rudimentary electronics of the first iteration doesn't put
out anything of value.

Stephen,

The DDEC electronic monitor on mine shows mpg, trip mileage, speed, etc. I think it has other functions, but I've never been curious enough to go further.

The "Detroit Diesel Pro Driver" was offered at the factory and gave information as:
fuel mileage
idle time
trip segments
leg segments
cruise control use
and percentages of each related to overall use.
It was primarily a management tool use on OTR vehicles
I would guess it could not be retrofitted to other engines as it was part of the ECM function.
