DH found a great deal on a class A. (( we think )) It's a 78
WonderLodge 35 FC with a Cat/ 3208 and 4 speed Allison trans. 175,000
miles. 6 brand new tires. It was on the road on and off till about a
year ago. The guy started it up in Nov. and let it run a while. Brand
new genny. A good one. I forget the name though.
The guy wanted 8000.00. We went and looked at it and it was pretty
dirty. Not trashed. Just dirty. The guys loser chain smoking brother
was living in it. No leaks that I can tell.
I hemmed and hawwed cos all the cleaning would be on me as hubby is
disabled so the guy came down 500.00. He said he wanted us to have it
as others were beating down his door and he was finding thier
aggressiveness rude. So he said he would take the 500 and have the
thing detailed and buy 4 new batteries.....
Now am I wrong or is this too good to be true. Hubby says we could sell
it for twice that. I skeptical. If it sounds too good to be true.....

Karen,
It sounds to me that you need a professional to inspect this Bird for you.
The inspector should be well experienced with RV's and if possible knowledgeable about Wanderlodge's.
I do not know the location of the bird but there are several fellows on this site that could possibly help youor steer you to someone who can. See if you can make a deal with the owner to hold it for you. A 30 day$500.00 "refundable" deposit dependant on a good inspection by a pro. Most deals that seem to be to good to be true usually isa bad deal.If you buy a basket case you can spend a ton of money fixing it up. There are a lot of very good Wanderlodges that have been well taken care of on the market now. Don't let the fever lead you into a bad deal. The smoke probably is in all the fabric's and on a hot day would be obnoxious.Be careful!

I would also advise you to get a professional to check out the rig.
I paid a little over 20,000 dollars for my rig and all it needed was
new brakes on the back end and up dated tires. I guess if your hubby
is a person that likes to fool around with machanical things at the
price your getting it for it might be a fair deal. But by the time
and unknow problems you might run into you might just pay a little
bit more and know what your getting. I would defenitily get a real
RV mechanic to check it out and see what the real price would be
after you complete getting in order. Jon

Ozone generators get the smoke out... Car dealers use them all the time... Just run it for a week, maybe less...

Steam clean every item possible...drapes, all carpet, all upholstery. Clean everything else with a good cleaner..hard surfaces and vinyl. Put vinyl dressing on the vinyl. Agree the ozone generators work well...but get a commercial one (larger capacity) and leave it run for at least a week.

First, the seller isn't telling you the truth - if people were
"beating down his door" trying to buy it at his asking price, he would
have sold it by now. He certainly wouldn't be giving you, a random
stranger, discounts because he "likes you" and "wants you to have it."
Sounds to me like he has some used car salesman training. This is a
classic sales technique: He's trying to hype the thing up so you'll
think it's the deal of the century, we have to move quick because
everyone else wants it, and oh, aren't we so very special - he likes
us and wants us to have it!

I, personally, wouldn't buy anything from someone who pulled these
silly sales tactics on me. If I can't trust them not to lie about
trivial details like this, how can I trust them on the history,
maintenance and overall condition of the coach? Also, doubt you can
sell it for twice the price. From time to time you run into someone
selling something where they don't know it's real value, but in my
experience, that's not very often. If it's worth twice the price he'd
probably be asking that - or it would have sold by now. The real
steals go very, very fast.

At any rate, be very careful on a coach like this. It's not going to
look like much of a deal if you have to plow $20,000 into it to make
it roadworthy. If you already find it unsatisfactory, it's doubtful
you will find the will to be really happy with it in the future. I
think you are setting yourself up for disappointment and highly
recommend you pass on this one. Keep looking until you've found one
that you really like - then it will be a blessing instead of a curse.
Don't be tempted to jump on something just because it's available
"now" - take your time and don't buy until you see a coach that both
of you really want and are excited about owning.

I agree with Ryan completely. You don't want to buy motor homes for
purposes of speculation. Now there are good deals out there and
there is a chance this one is a good one for some one who knows BB's
inside and out but you wouldn't fall into that category or at least I
would think not. Remember, that most of us looked for a year or more
before buying and even then many found out there was more then what
met the eye with regards to repairs etc. My coach was in good shape
only needing some interior clean up and refurbishing but I've spent
the best part of a year doing that ( I am not really skilled at this
and am learning). From my limited experience to date I think a person
does this for LOVE but not for MONEY. If you want a BB to have and
enjoy it's very worth while. If you are doing it to make money there
has to be a better way. I am speaking from a years experience. I
need to step back now and enjoy the thing rather then working on it
most every free day. Looking forward to Maxton this week.
