I had to replace my governor a few years ago, and had the same problem locating it. I finally had to take it to a real shop, and they found the governor, and said it was almost impossible to get to (apparently on a frame rail above the transmission???). They suggested that it be replumbed to a more accessible location....I agreed. They replumbed it to the engine compartment bulkhead, curb side, near the battery charger compartment. Left the old one in place, but not hooked up. Maybe something you could consider......

1986 38' PT

Hi all. Om a 1983 PT35 I am looking for the air system governor and
for the life of me, I can't seem to locate it. I had understood that
it is inside the frame rail but it doesn't seem to be there. Help!!

The govenor is mounted directly on the compressor.

Not familiar with your 83 PT,
But the governor could be on the compressor or on the frame rail
inside.
Could be any where between the compressor and the air dryer.
search for several lines of small copper tubing, follow the air
lines, It looks like this;

You have a FC...are you sure the governor is located the same place as on his PT? Mine wasn't. Hate to see him go on a hunt when there's no chance of catching anything!!

The governor is located on the back of the compressor it is round about 3 inchs lonG. has a screw off cover for adjust on the right side (looking from flywheel end of engine)

Kevin,

Aparently I am mistaken. The PT's may have a 'remote mount' governor
as explained to me by John Finn on another forum.

P.S. I still like your coach, but it is over my price range.

86 38 PT (For Sale, but now cheaper!)

Hello Dennis:
On my PT, the governor is located on the right (passenger side) top
(upper) inside rail, behind the Tag Axel, and aprox 2 feet from the
compressor, (and above the transmission). Mine was partially hidden
behind a clump of wiring bundles/ hoses, but I could see two of the
air lines dropping down to connect to it.
As always, yours may be in a completely different location…, but
remember to be safe while under there!
