When checking the electrolyte levels on my generator battery I foung a
ring of corrosion/electroltsis around the bottom of the battery box
where the rubber pad meets the side of the box. The battery sits on the
pad.

I don't really understand what causes this, or how to prevent it. Any
knoledge out there on this subject?

Sounds like your batteries are 'boiling over' during the charge cycle, allowing battery acid to run down the side of the case and corrode the battery box. The battery chargers in the older WLs are notorious for doing this -- and it can seriously shorten the life of the batteries.

Art,
corrosion/electroltsis around the bottom of your battery box could alos
mean you have a hairline crack in one of yur batteries as well. I'd
remove the batteries and check each one for cracks of body seperation
between the lid and the battry box first before I spent any money on
battery chargers. You can buy a battery cleaner solution which will
change color to let you know you have a leaking battery.

My coach has been upgraded to a more modern inverter/three stage
charger.. I will check for cracks though. I've already replaced
that batt. once because of a crack.
