Hello,
I have just recently purchased a 81FC. On the day of purchase my
first
stop was the fuel station. After adding 100 gallons it would not
start.
The Kenworth truck shop next to the fuel station towed me out of the
pumps and into their shop. After replacing fuel filter (4 years old)
and priming system I was running again. The bill for the tow job and
mechanic for 3/4 hour was $7.80. WOW !!

Finally, after arriving home I started working on the fresh water
system to repair several leaks, (shower control valve-cracked,
kitchen
sink faucet- broke, waterline to toilet-burst). At a plumbing supply
place I was able to order a shower valve that would fit- delivery 1
week.

As I have to work at my regular job, and time is short, I decided to
have the 81FC serviced by a profesional outfit. Since the Kenworth
shop
treated me so good I decided to give them some more buisness. I had a
lube job and the oil changed and also the cooling system flushed on
the
main engine and the gen set.

I arrived home and started the gen set to provide power while I
continued working on the water system. The gen-set ran for 10 minutes
then shut down and would not start. I called the Kenworth shop and
explained to them that it worked fine before the oil change and
radiator flush. "Bring it in, and we'll look at it" 10 days later(and
some major rewiring to the slide harness) they say they can't find a
fuel shut-off solenoid.

Does anyone know where the Perkins/Kohler solenoids can be purchased?

Where are you located? We usually sign off with name, model of coach and
location, that way someone nearby maybe close enough to help.

Now to your problem. That fuel shut off solenoid you are looking for is
hooked to both oil pressure and water temp also. Is it possible your shop
disconnected one or the other? When you say they did a major job of
rewiring that scares me. My 1981 has an air assisted slide not electric and
the only wiring is to a solenoid that feeds air to the ram and has nothing
to do with the electrical of the genny. Give us some more details and maybe
we can point you in the right direction.

Hi Vic,
Chet is right that they may have disconnected a wire or two by mistake. But to
answer your question, the fuel shutoff solenoid is a roundish thing towards the
rear of the generator with a rod connecting it to the fuel injection pump. You
had best hope that isn't the problem as I thought that I needed one on that
genset before I sold it awhile back and was told that they were $600, if you can
find one. That was not the problem at that time however. It was the little
cheap amp meter that you can't see to read on the control box. We simply wired
across the meter and it would work again. The high water temp., low oil press.
AND, as it turned out, the amp meter are all wired in series. Any open in that
circuit will shut the thing down.

Kevin is well aware of that particular genset. I understand that you "met" him
on the phone - good. He won't jerk you around, he's honest.

I'm glad to see that you found this site.

Hi there.:
I purchased mine at Simpson Maxwell, I do not know if you have a company like
that near you. They deal with all types of generators. Cost was $125.
