Bob Lawrence

Hi group,

Just a quick question...got back from the shop having had new leverers
installed in front and rear.
After getting into my spot tried to drop tag and main suspension dump
valves and air wouldn't drop.

Where do I look for this problem?

Bob, My 84 used to do the same thing, not all the time just now and
then. I would have to start the engine put the switch's in the air-up
position wait a couple on minutes and then everything would work normal
when I shut it off. Don't know why. it just happened that way. Bob
93pt 40 warm Illinois.

You might check the fuses, the dump valve is electric operated. On
the 1992 model that fuse (SK32) controls the main suspension and tag
dump valve, as well as the valve that open/closes the fresh air
intake to the drivers area.

Both Bobs. My 94 acts up like that now. If I shut the main engine off before
I switch the dump valves to dump nothing happens. I have to restart the
engine, let the suspension air up a bit, hit the dump valves switches and
everything works. I think the valves are getting a little old

Bob, the dump valve is air operated. the switch on the dash is
electric. If there is not 70 psi or more air in the two airbrake
gauges , the air part of the switch will not dump or fill the air that
is captured in the bags (even if it gets the electric signal to do
so). If the electric part of the electric over pnumatic valve is
depending on ignition???? that may also be a criterium to operate the
valve.

Thanks for all the replys...this has happened twice before..don't
know why..my gauges show 120 psi.
Probably will start engine tomorrow and totally air up, then will try
again.
Question, where is the main dump valve?

Just be aware that your system has more than one air system, and the one shown
on your gauges may not be (I would say probably isn't) any indication of the
pressure available on the air bag system. The main gauge normally shows only the
front/rear brake air, which would never be used for dump valves.

My understanding is that their is a saftey on the system that will
not let you dump the suspension without x(don't remember how much)
pounds of air pressure at the valve. I remember on my 82 PT40 this
happening. Once I started the engine and built up some air pressure
it would dump. You will probably find an air leak in the system.

yeah, I'm sure you're right, Mike....someday I'll borrow one of those
sound meters and find all the leaks..thanks.

Bob,

I seem to recall reading that the dump valve is located up front. I
believe I remember it was on the passenger side somewhere, but it may
be the drivers side.
