Pete et all,

I have seen erroneous postings about the Aqua Hot numerous times
pertaining to fuel usage.

The Aqua Hot under 100% duty cycle (running 24 hrs a day) will ONLY
burn 3 gals a day, NOT 1/2 gal an hour like a generator.
BUT, since it couldn't possibly run that much, you really shouldn't
give any thought to fuel consumption.

I have had an Aqua Hot in my last two coaches and NEVER winterize,
only use the AH. Last winter, when I didn't use the coach for 3 months
(an all time first for me LOL) I used 100 gals of diesel over 90 days
of use with temps between 10-30 degrees.

Don't just take my word for it, call them and ask for yourself, but it
*really* doesn't use much fuel.

Hi,
With your experience with Aquahot. I'm a newbi.
When dry camping -Start aquihot with both thermoststs and hot water calling
for heat. Burner runs as does recirc. pump. The burner may cycle on and off.
After a time the Therms are satisfied as is the hot water. IMy recirc pump keeps
running, Shouldn't it shut off until the therms or WH calls?

2nd question-- When on the road- engine hot- my burner comes on- I think
it should not as the engine coolant should be sufficient. The manual says that
the recirc pump will run until the retained engine heat is depleted. I think
there may be another recirc pump from the engine for this purpose.

Paul,

Good to hear that usage is so low. I _thought_ I read the 1/2 gal per
hour figure in the BB owner's manual in my blue box -- but there are
a lot of errors and omissions in it....

I winterize by staying in California ....

When I'm going over the road, I turn off the "hydronic heat" switch
on the dash board. That keeps the burner from running, but the
circulation pumps still pump as I'm able to turn on the thermostats
and get heat from the A-H using engine heat only. This is one of
those non-intuitive Blue Bird "secret" (otherwise non-documented)
facts. I hate to admit this, but I only discovered this recently. But
I only recently discovered that the Engine Pre-Heat uses the AquaHot
to heat the engine. In my case both the "pre-heat" and the "hydronic
heat" switches must be on for it to work.

At least, it's how it works with my system.

Well, I do not know about the new coaches, they have far to mann----nny gadgets.
I will tell you about my hydronic system.
The recirculation pump will run forever if I do not turn the system switch off.
In my case it is a single on/off switch temperature controlled by a single
thermostat in the galley.
However, the principle of radiant heat, or hydronic heat requires continuous
hot water movement. If the water does not move there is no heat. If the
circulation of heated water ceases you get cold in cold weather.
There is an over temp sensor in the burner that will shut it down when a
specified water temp is attained. It you think about it , it is similar to
turning your A/C off in summer as opposed to setting it at 80. It takes a lot
longer to cool a hot house that to cool a stable house. In my opinion continuous
circulation of hot water, there is about 150lf of it in a bus , the heat therein
being dissipated by heat exchangers(convections fans) is what provides stable
heat in the bus. It the water is not moving you get to start all over again.
Stagnant water will not heat anything.
Warning, sometimes I can be radical in opinion. My Wabasto works well when it
works, and that is most of the time.. Right now I think I have an air lock,
something I need to address this weekend. Not normal. Me either. lol

I guess that is what I was trying to say. Not matter the configuration, if hot
water is not moving it is not possible to have continuous hydronic or radiant

Hi,
Very confusing.
I have 2 switches only.
1 on the dash èngine preheat and one in the galley area `webasto
The eng. preheat turns on the webasto switch.(ie ligts it up)

The manual is quoted here::
Normal operation..........
......
After the ignition period (about 10 sec) ,the ignitor shuts off, and the burner
continues to operate. The heater will operate until all the zone thermostats are
satisfied,or until the heater reaches its normal operating temp. of 180
degrees. Once the normal operating temp is reached the burner itself will cycle
off and the combustion fan will operate for an additional 2 minutes to purge the
burner. If a zone thermostat, domestic hot water aquistat ,or engine heat
exchanger aquistat is not satisfied, the circulation pump will continue to
operate.If a thermostat cannot be satisfied by the residual heat in the system,
and the water temp drops, the burner will restart and cycle until all the
thermostats are satisfied. Once the thermostats are satisfied,the heater will go
through its 2 minute purge, and the circulation pump will ease. The circ pump
will operate if the remote switch and any thermostats or the domestic aquistat
are on.The circulating pump will
be activated independently by the engine heat aquistat.

When driving, I get no heat unless I turn on the webasto. When I pull off the
highway with the engine running, the webasto burner cycles. Perhaps the circ
pump doesn`t come on independantly as suggested above.
By the above description, I think the circ pump should shut down occasionally --
better for dry camping.
Does anyone have it operate this way.

Hi Ross,

First a warning.....

Do NOT run your engine with the preheat switch on as they are bucking
each other. The preheat circ pump wants to pump heated coolant to the
engine and the engine pump wants to heat the water heater.

As to the circ pump, if I am not mistaken, you do not actually have an
AH, but a Webasto and system installed by BB. The AH circ pump only
operates when heat is called for or the preheat is used.

I would call BB and ask them about the proper operation of the
Webasto, if in fact you don't have an AH.
