I was wondering if anyone has any information on tightening up a
steering box on a 1979FC35? My coach wanders something terrible in
windy conditions. I have check all the steering linkage and it all is
tight. It apears all the play is in the steering box. I can turn the
wheel about 1/16 of a turn before the wheels start to move. Any
information would be appreciated.

Its just possible Brian that its the king pins binding that is your
problem. Have you taken the weight off the front end and turned the
steering wheel lock to lock while you inject grease into each kingpin?
Thats the proper way to grease them and if they arent greased properly you
will get this darting action while driving.

Be sure all the components are tight from the steering box to the coach
frame...resolved the wandering problem our 1974 had.

The steering box likes to come loose from the frame. Make sure the bolts are
tight. Check all pivot points for excessive clearance, tie rods, drag link etc.

there is an adjustment on the box.i just adjusted the one on woodys bird.what
apita..lucky i have a pit.there is a steel plate with 6 bolts that you have to
remove,then you need a 3/4 wrench and a short stubby screwdriver. best deal is
take it somewhere that knows how to adjust the box..randydupree93wb

You have received some very good information here. IF, after
following all of their advice, you still have a problem, go to
<http://www.babsteering.com>, Get their (800) number and call and talk to
Bill. He has forgotten more about power steering than most people
will ever know. Be sure to have all the information about which power
steering unit you have, the pump, etc. so he can give you the exact
information you need.

Thanks for all the advice, I am going to try greasing the king pins
with the wheels off the ground first. I always greased them with the
front end on the ground. We have a trip to Governor Dodge park in
WI. this weekend and I will test it out on that trip. If that
doesn't fix it I think I will try to adjust the steering box. I have
already checked everything for tightness. Thanks again and I will
let you know how it turns out.

I have a leaking steering box on a 82FCSB that I would like to fix, but I don't
know how to gain access to it. Perhaps if we can both get the same proceedure,
we can soplve both problems.

Remove battery box and there it is. I find a floor jack is a good tool to
expidite the process. I would remove the batteries first.
