J. Aaron Alexis

Does anyone own a 66 or at least one with the gas pusher. Was
wondering how difficult it is to transfer to diesel. Actually
probably won't be traveling that often with it over hills and such so
may be more reasonable to leave as is.

Haven't seen anyone with a gas pusher post to this forum. A fair number of FMC
motorhomes were converted from Dodge 440 pushers to diesel. They have a lot of
different
issues since they were built on a monocoque chassis, but people on that forum
might be able
to help with general gas to diesel pusher conversion questions. The typical
conversion on
the FMC was a Detroit 8.2 but some put in Cummins 5.9's or Chevy Duramax's.

Plus my 74 "Mobile Showroom" with the 6V53T was converted from the Ford
Gas V8. It also has a 4 speed Allison behind it.

I am pretty certain the term "pusher" was just misused here. The
fellow is asking about converting a FC built in 1966 to diesel. I e-
mailed him off list and gave him a little information. Perhaps those
who have actually done it or had it done have as well.

I don't believe 'pusher' was misused. BlueBird made
some gas pushers in that era I believe.

Right you are John. My email was referring to my "74FC34" which is a
Forward Control that was converted from the gas V8 to a Detroit
6V53Turbo diesel. Tight fit but it works well. Best speed is right at
64 mph & 6.8 mpg. They also added straight through exhausts from the
engine out the back & through the rear bumper. Sounds nice.

I'm guessing this is the coach in question. Scroll down the list
until you come to 1966 Bluebird. It's a 66 gas pusher with a bad
engine. Not a Wanderlodge.

Wow, did you see the FC31 for sale under "Buses for Sale" on that
site? Looking at the prices he had for some of that old stuff says
that our Birds should be much higher in value!
