Allstate ins. in La. is suing Dometic.
They are claiming a trailer fire was caused by the refrigerator.
Allstate is trying to recoup the money they paid out
in the claim.
Just food for thought!!

There's a long thread (76 pages!) over on RV.net on the tech issues forum on
this topic.
Well worth reading if you have a Dometic frig. If you do you should check your
serial
number to see if it is subject to recall. (fridges made between 93-03 are being
recalled)
Learn about the recall and get it done. Be careful in dealing with Dometic on
these issues,
they are less than straightforward on the problem and downright deceitful on
explaining
what they do in the recall. But, you don't want your firg catching on fire,
particularly if
you're in the coach.

I just checked the Dometic website and they are saying that there is a recall
for RV refrigerators manufactured between 1997 and 2003. Here is the page where
I found that infor.

http://www.dometic.com/templates/fp.aspx?id=33769

Your information says refrigerators manufactured between 1992 and 2003. I
checked RV.net and did a search for recalls and could find nothing on their
website. Do you have the web page where you found your information.,

Thanks for your reply. I have a Dometic refrigerator in my 1995 WLWB and am
concerned about whether it fits in the recall category.

Regards,

I got a letter from Dometic detailing the recall. I may be wrong on
the dates but I'm virtually certain mine was installed in 96. If
you go to the link on the website you posted, you can type in the
model and serial number of your frig and it will tell you if it's
recalled. RV.Net seems to be down at the moment so I can't link you
to the thread.

Here's the thread at RV.NET. Looks like I was wrong on the dates.

Ron -

A friendly warning about the Dometics: Dometic RM2820 isn't even on
that recall model list, but my RM2820 built in late 2003 (outside the
recall timeframe) had the exact same failure being described on the
recall models, about 6 months out of warranty on July 5. Jay Darst
and others had the same experience with that model, just out of
warranty. If that's your model, or even if your particular model is
anywhere around the timeframe of the builds in question, I would be
cautious in using the propane heater option. I thank my lucky stars
that I seldom ever ran it on propane, which is how the fires started
and forced the recall 'fix', which is fairly hokey in itself. It's
more of a bandaid than a fix.

Here's the irony. It appears that not running the frig on propane
makes the failure more likely since it is the overheating of the
electric element that stresses the welds. Yet, running it on
propane makes the fire much more likely if the weld does break.
Damned if you do and damned if you dont.
Tim of TimsRV seems very well informed on this topic. I think he
may belong to this forum.
