Hi,

For all of you Wanderlodge owners who favor gas engines, were there any
that had been replaced with the Ford Super Duty 534 V-8 engine?

Regards,

Ben

Ben,

I once owned a 1974 Wanderlodge with the Ford Super Duty 534 V-8 engine. It
came from the factory that way.

Do you own a 'Bird? Or just looking?

Ben, I have a Ford Super Duty 534C.I. engine in my FC31. It is a very strong
power plant. I remember working on one in 1968 in what was called a B-52
Wheel Mover. They have been around since the early sixties, and were
discontinued around 1980/1981. My bus came with this engine, has 145K on the
clock, but the second owner had it overhauled at around 115K, because he was
concerned about using unleaded gas, (engine did not come with hardened valve
seats). The folks that overhauled it told him that it was in fine shape,
could have went another 100K. So, I have approx. 30K on it,(with hardened
valve seats installed). Thanks to help from Mike H. , Curt S., Holley, and a
few others, I have replaced the carb.,(new Holley 670 Truck Avenger), new
ignitor, etc. It is running great now,( It SURE LOVES GAS THOUGH ). I am
sure that it will outlast me. Hope this info. helps. Regards, George Burke

Any thoughts to converting that ford gas engine to LPG???
About 60% of cars in Australia are converted....in fact LPG is at
most all gas staions here..USA is well behind in this area, but I
imagine as gasoline goes up more, perhaps more will convert...it is
cheap.....costs about $2000 to convert here..it is pretty simple..get
a big stainless steel tank and some fixings and done!!
problem in USA is finding places to "fill up!"

Yeah Hank. That is not just Australia....
When we were in the Netherlands a few years ago, we had a 626 Mazda
that was "Dual Fueled", that is it had both a Gasoline tank, and a
Propane tank, with just a switch on the dash to choose which was desired..
At least I think it was Propane...They called it Auto-Gas...

Hi,

I should have looked closer before presenting this question to the group.

Also, please forgive me on any repeated subjects that I have committed
recently.

Thank you,

Ben

George,

They'd actually been around since 1958. The other two Super Duty engines
introduced that year were the 401 and 477 V-8s.

I know Blue Bird had sold the Ford 389XD (XD = Extra Duty) engine for their
'Lodges as well (the 389XD was a new designation in 1975 for the 391 V-8, a
'truckized' version of the 390 FE V-8).

Regards,

Ben

Hello Hank, Congrats to you and Naty for getting hitched. May you travel
many Happy Trails together. I have heard of LPG conversions, but have not
investigated as to any improvement of mpg. Gasoline has dropped a bit here,
as I paid $2.729 per gal at Wal-Mart the other day. I checked on LPG a few
weeks back and it was $2.99 per gal. Seems that I would be on the losing end
unless I would get a good improvement in mpg, or maybe LPG is just spiking
here. It would be another job jar job, as I still have to get this thing
down the road and get the Dometic Refrig. recall taken care of, have one
noisey a/c, and one that doesn't work! You get the idea, and have been house
bound because of this heat wave. One day I hope to have what you have, I
really like those SP's . Best Regards, George Burke Charlotte 1977 FC31 Gas
