Hi folks,
Has anyone installed a macerating pump on a Bird? I'm looking at the
Sani-Con 5800 (
http://tinyurl.com/355ywu) and would love to hear any
ideas on where one might install it. The pump would need to mount
within a few feet of my drain valve, but on my '86 PT-40 I don't see
any place to actually mount it and store the attached drain hose while
maintaining clearance under the coach.
Any thoughts? Where and how have others installed these systems, and
which brand(s) of pump did you use?
I simply want to be able to drain the tanks anywhere I go. Being able
to pump the waste up to 350 feet away would make it easy to dump at
home, at relatives' homes, etc.

Ryan,
Bob Loomis has one installed on his Pt-40. He is not online now but
in the next day or two I am sure he will chime in. His installation
looked very nice with a switch at the dump station I believe.

I had one on my GMC and really liked it. I bought the FloJet RV Waste Pump
Kit and used it on Pokey and liked it as well. The complications of the
transferable system were far outweighted by the ability to dump in my septic
system. I tapped into the 12V outlets at the inverter/charger and it worked out
fine ('81 FC35, yours is probably different). They really dislike plastics, if
you catch my drift.

I was interested in being able to empty my holding tanks during stays
at friend's homes, but couldn't see an easy way to alter my system to
use the RV Sani-con 5800 series. When I saw a new RV Sani-Con System
Tank Buddy Model 8102 for sale on eBay, I decided to try that one. It
comes built into a portable plastic tool box, primarily for use on 5th
wheels, and trailers, and has worked great! Seller included 2- 25 foot
1" diameter hoses. Anywhere I can find a sewer trap; I can cleanly
empty my tanks.
I liked the system so much, that when I found a 5800 for sale at a
great price, I bought that one as a possible future project. If you
decide to go that route, I'd be interested in how you decide to mount it.
