My last towd (Wrangler) went in a package deal when I sold my FC. I
have a line on a nice looking CJ7 at a good price to replace it. I
have had several Jeeps, but all have been manual trans...this one is
automatic. Anything different about towing an auto trans Jeep?

Probably not, but just to get technical, there are now some two-wheel-drive
jeeps that are not towable, and I don't think that would include any CJ7.

As long as it has a transfer case with neutral, you can tow it. Instructions for
mine ('07 liberty) are: transmission in neutral, shift transfer to neutral, put
transmission in drive or reverse and rev it to make sure transfer case is free,
put transmission in park, engine off, key "on," parking brake off, drive away.

There are even a few newer jeeps without steering locks, but mine is not one of
them, hence still need key on.

Could not have said it better myself....as long as the vehicle has a
transfer case, with a Neutral Position, it can usually be towed. I towed a
2000
Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4, a Dodge Durango 4X4, and now, a Jeep Wrangler
(stick). I believe the only 4X4 that you should worry about towing are the
ones with full-time four-wheel drive, and no neutral selectable transfer case.
If all else fails, look in the owners manual...Jeep has always covered flat
towing pretty clearly in their factory manuals.

Hi Scott,
I have towed my last 2000 Jeep wrangler behind my BB with out a problem, it is
an automatic, just put the transfer case in neutral and leave the shifter in
park... Now I have an '06 rubicon that is stick behind the BB, same way,
transfer case in neutral and the shifter in 2nd...

Scott,
Not sure the year makes a difference. I towed a CJ7 (1976) for many years
(20) ...Trans in Park, Transfrer Case in Nutural...all was good. Several
years ago I added a full flooting rearend with Warn Lock Outs, just to keep
more metal from turning; worked great.
