Hello All,

My wife and I have just made the commitment to join the Wanderlogde
family. We are picking up a 1986 PT40 next week. It has been garaged
since new but still has a few project to be done. Some of the priority
tasks are to get the drivers windshield replaced and diagnois the
inoperative tachometer.

I live in Marietta, Georgia and we have a bluebird bus dealer that will
replace the windshield for $280 for the glass and $170 for the labor.
While they are not a "Wanderlodge" service center, they do service
other bluebird products and said they can do the replacement with a few
days notice. I thought these prices sounded reasonable but have no
experience with Wanderlodges.

Regards,

Glenn and Lisa

Price sounds reasonable and is consistent with other's experience.
The pre-1989 school bus-chassis based Wanderlodges share a fair
number of components with the corresponding school busses. The wide
body models built in 1989 and later aren't so fortunate but a Blue
Bird school bus dealer can do a lot of services on any year
Wanderlodge. (The previous owner of my coach regularly used a Blue
Bird school bus dealer for service.)

I would call Earl at Bluebird and get a price from him. You might be surprised
at the reasonable cost direct from them.
For our FC, the windshields go for about $130.00 each.

Welcome, and congrats. on the your Wanderlodge decision.

Bluebird sold me several windshields, $220.00 each, shipped to my house.
Windshield installers here in CA want at least $150.00 to install one. Seems
like you are getting an okay deal. Be sure they cover the cost for a
replacement windshield if it cracks or breaks during installation.

Glen & Lisa:

Keep us informed on the status of that tachometer, if you don't mind.
I also am a relatively new owner of an '86 PT-40 with an inoperative
tach. I've dug into it a little, but not as far as I would have liked
as other, more pressing repairs have popped up. When you get yours
working, I'd love to know what the solution winds up being.

On the flip side, if I fix mine before you fix yours, I'll be sure to
post the solution here as well.

Bill,

Thanks for the info. Do you have a number for Earl? I called a BB
parts number and talked to Scott (I believe that was his name). He
said that I should call National Bus in Marietta for parts. I was
given the impression that I had to go through a dealer and could not
buy direct, but I could have mis understood what he was saying.

I asked if I drove my motorhome down if they could install a windshield
and was told that they do not service motorhomes.

Again, I'm new to Wanderlodge and might be talking to the wrong people
or division.

Thanks,

Glenn

Curt, Thanks for the tip....

I would not have thought of installation breaks.

Ryan,

From the little searching I have done to date, it seems to be a
recurrent problem in the older Wanderlodges. Hopefully we can find a
relatively simple fix. I'll let you know of my progress when I get
the bird home and dig into the problem.
