I am wondering at what age truckers would no longer be interested in
the tires from by bird. I will need to replace them in the next 2 or
three years due to age, but I may be ahead if I do it soon enough to
sell off the old ones. Low mileage excellent tread.
Just wondering what most people do.

I replaced all my tires on the bus in Feb. of this year, the tires on
the bus were ten years old... I bought BFG's for $380 ea. plus $20 for
equal tire balance in ea. tire... Plus they gave me $60 for each of
the Goodyear G159's that were on the bus...

Hi Gardner,
I remember an old message from Randy DuPree that said he replaces his tires at 5
years
because he can still recover some money for them on the used tire market. Don't
remember how much he gets and not sure if this is an economical decision or not.
Last
time I chanced tires they were 12 years old, which is too long to wait even
though they still
looked good. Didn't get anything for them. Hope this helps.

Eric,
A while back I asked Randy to evaluate a potential Bird purchase
for me. In the afternoon of conversations he mentioned he had a
relatonship with truckers and sold his old tires to them. We didn't
get to the age/price part, which prompted my question on the forum.
So I have to believe that Randy has a handle on the subject and
that 5 years is probably the optimum. I would guess that they start
to drop in resale value after that. It seems the biggest factor in
getting top dollar is finding a buyer.

deal is.

Generally tires have a 5 year expected life(and they are usually date
stamped) even though you may have good tires and they last longer
depending on care and mileage. After five years they would be just
salvage value --maybe 10 to 30 dollars depending on tread and so on.
Secondly, the tires on your BB are most likely a different size than is
common on most trucks since they are actually bus tires. Even going to
a professional truck tire center, I have had to have my tires ordered
in because of the size.
