Is there scheduled maintenance that should occur with the air
compressor on my 87FC35?
This has probably been addressed somewhere in here, but I looked and
couldn't find it. I'm not sure how the compressor is lubricated, and
therefore wonder if there is some lubricant that needs to be changed.
Also is there a filter?
I check for water in the tanks occasionally, but there is never any in
them.

Alan,
The intake air filter / strainer needs replaced or cleaned.
Do not be surprised if the foam filter in missing, they break down and
disintegrate. I replaced with a small paper disposible mini air filter,
available at truck parts stores or NAPA. It is very difficult to
service from the doghouse, , That is the reason for the disposable
replacement , it can be replaced from the doghouse.
Try the link for information, It is in the files section.
You will need to cut and paste, see pages 3 & 4.

There's a gasket between the air compressor and the engine. It went
out on my FC a few months ago and we dumped 8 quarts of engine oil in
less than 20 miles. The fix was cheap - new gasket - but a little
hard to get to. Always watch your oil pressure gauge.... :-)
