When I bought my PT36 in April the engine oil temp guage was inop.
I have replaced that guage with a working one and I see the engine
oil temp running at 230 degrees. I believe that is close to the upper
limit. This temperature is reached driving local freeways with
little congestion and no grades. Do I have something to be concerned
about? You folks who have similiar engines, what is your normal engine
oil temp? Coolant temp runs 185 to 195.

I just looked in my Detroit manual last night and found the oil range for my
8v92TAC engine. 200-250 for mine. If you know what engine and turbo you have I
can look it up and tell you what it says for you engine.
Was the new gauge the same index as the old gauge? If not, you need to replace
the sender with a compatible version. As for actual temperatures, mine routinely
runs 220 at 1950 rpm and 67 mph. As water temperature increases, so does the oil
temp.

The replacment guage is identical - same indexing, same ID numbers.
It came out of an '84 FC35 the previous owner of mine was parting
out.

My 8V92's usual oil temp is 230-235....water temp is around 190 +/- 5
degrees, even when under a load. If it starts to climb, I turn on the fan
overide,
and it comes right back down.

I cleaned my radiators and it has brought down my temps abt. 7 degrees on
avgerage.

engine and generator radiator.

Art,
One for the transmission mounted on engine side of main engine radiator. I
pressure washed with a good brand of cleaner being careful not to damage hoses
or radiators.
