Hello,
I wonder if I can get some help with my generator problem?
The generator runs well but my AC voltages are 112 and 147 volts ac on
legs one and two. When I plug in a vacuum cleaner it will barely turn
the motor. If I turn the hot water heater on the relay under the sink
chatters like crazy. Could this be a brush problem in the generator?
If anyone has had a similar problem and could point me in the right
direction it would be very much appreciated.

Seems to be a common problem - especially with those Todd transfer
switches. Maybe that is why they are no longer in business. I have
seen two fixes if that is where the problem is located. One is to
replace with a transfer switch from Iota; Second is to replace the
relay with one from Graingers.

Hi Jeff,
I assume the transfer switch is the OFF, GEN, 50, 30 position switch
by the entrance step. I have cycled this switch a number of times.
The previous owner has installed a plate with sound deadner on it
between the engine bell housing and generator assy. I have not
figured out how to remove this plate to get access to the generator.
Can you tell me how the wires are routed from the genset? Do the
outputs L0 L1 L2 go to the transfer switch before they go to the
breaker panel? Is there any other components in between? Is there an
AC wiring diagram available for the coach>

In the '88 it should be the rotary switch at the top of the stairs
that you switch between Shore 50, Gen, Off, Shore 30.

There is a wiring diagram for the 12.5 Kubota/Kohler genset, and for
your coach's 240v wiring.
The 240v wiring runs from the genset to the breaker panel near the
genset, then to the transfer switch, and from there to the main
breaker panel in the rear of your coach.
If someone has replaced the original Pacs 1500 inverter with a larger
inverter/charger it is possible that the power goes to the new
inverter between the transfer switch and the breaker panel.

I had low voltage on my 90WL40 and I adjusted the idle and it brought up
the voltage to the proper level.

I would be very careful adjusting the mechanical Governor to get the voltage up.
The mechanical adjustment only changes the RPM of engine which in turns changes
the frequency of the output voltage. Too high or too low frequency can damage
any non resistive load. (Inverters, TV, Battery Chargers, Microwave, etc.) I am
not sure of the Voltage Regulator you have but most have a way to set voltage.
If no voltage adjustment is on regulator you may need to replace regulator. If
you have done any mechanical adjustment to the engine governor you need to get a
good frequency meter and be sure the frequency is set at 60 cycles.
