Pete Masterson,

Ok, here is what has happened.

Numero Uno, I think the problem with the shut down is fixed. Don't
know exactly what did it but it is running now and has not shut down
in about 30 mins. Before it would shutdown in about 5 to 10 minutes.

Here is what I did. I opened up the upper petcock on the coolant
system and added a gallon of anti-freeze until it spurted out of the
petcock. I closed the petcock off and replaced the Pressure cap and
started the generator. It stopped after 5 to 10 minutes. Same ol
problem.

Next thing I did after that shut down is I turned the load breaker off
which also removes the power to the radiator cooling fan. I started
the generator again and it still shut off after 5 to 10 minutes.

Next I looked all over the engine for anything I thought might have
something to do with the fuel or coolant system. I found a valve
under neath the injector pump and I opened it up, out spewed what
looked like anti-freeze. It had that slight greenish color. I have
seen diesel that color too though, Anyway there was only maybe a
table spoon that came out and I closed the valve. Not finding
anything else I decided to start the enging. Well guess what? It ran
and did not shut down.

Now question is, what did I do that made it run. Now I only ran it
about 30 mins and it never shut down. Don't know what it will do when
it has run several hours. But it appears that the problem is fixed.
I am going to go to Louisiana to visit my brother in a short while
that will be a good test. Its about 4 hours over there and 4 hours
back. But I think it is going to be ok.

Anyone have any idea what that valve is below the injector pump on
that Power Tech Kubota 4 cylinder 1681cc is?

Check my album on the Yahoo group and there is a picture there of the
valve I am talking about.

Ron On mine power tech gen the valve is to drain
the coolant from the block. Also very time I drain the coolant from the gen and
refill it takes a few times of
adding coolant to remove all the air from the radiator

Yeah, I did notice that I had to keep adding coolant. Its a puzzle to me why it
is now running and not shutting off like it was.

What does the air in the coolant have to do with it not running for very long?
Is that related to the water level sensor that is located on the top of the
engine block? I had opened the petcock on that sensor block and coolant came
out of the petcock indicating there was plenty of coolant there.

Well the main thing is that it now runs without shutting off. It must have had
something to do with the coolant. It took a whole gallon to fill it up

As I understand it, the generator has a "low water" sensor and will
shut down to save itself if it senses insufficient water in the
cooling system. The air bubbles you encountered may have been enough
to trigger the low water sensor.

Yep, I guess that is what it was. Thanks to Randy Dupree for alerting me to
that low water sensor. The first time I tried the generator after topping off
the coolant it shutdown but the second time after I bled that valve on the
block, it ran ok. I am crossing my fingers that the problem is now gone.

Thanks Pete for all your help and communication. You should be home now for
some well deserved rest. Take care.
