Dru. I have had problems from lack of use and dirt and grime on the front
arm on my coach.

Hello,

I am wanting to know if anyone has experienced problems with the
telescoping portion of the ZipDee awning not extending. Mine is very
much stuck, unless there is a release I am not seeing. Not really
signs of corrosion, but it does not budge even the slightest.
Thanks!

Dru. I have had trouble with my front arm sticking from lack of use and
grime. When it sticks i usually take a block of wood and a good size hammer and
give it a good smack at the roller and it will come loose. When you get it
loose you need to take the arm apart and give it a good cleaning especially the
lower part and lube with silicone lube.

Yes, I did. And let me tell you it was not easy getting them apart.
Because they are disimilar metals the aluminum was corroded around the
stainless steel. (Some call it "galling")

Here's what I did to separate them. I removed the entire arm and then
removed the bottom portion (grooved) that slides inside the arm. I
found a piece of metal stock, (square) aluminum, that fit inside the
arm. I heated the entire arm and started pounding. I repeated this
step until I even considered buying a new one. (You'll need a vise and
some rags to hold it in place) I used lots of penetrant. It took some
serious pounding but it finally started to move. Continued pounding
until it came apart, cleaned and lulubed it. It works fine now.

Start soaking with PB Blaster, after a few days employ an electric heat gun to
the aluminum sleeve, the interior pole is steel. Not the best mix of materials
but that's what they do. I had ZipDee install new arm assys. on my 83 FC, kinda
costly, might be worth it to spend some time soaking and heating.

Not to be the spoiler but I tried the solvent/PB blaster approach.
All it did was run down the inside of the ss steel tube. IMHO there
are only two ways to fix it. Heat (I used a propane torch)and brute
force or a credit card.

I had the same problem...couldn't get one of the arms to move at all.
Called Zip Dee and had both pieces shipped to me. Cost was about 70
bucks each piece.

Be also certaian that the arm is not bent from a "hit"
I spent a lot of time with this until I finally realized the arm was bent from
an occurance unknown.

I really appreciate the response on this problem and I am glad I'm not the only
one, this time. Thanks to all. I plan to try the tricks before I buy.
