Just a heads up on the 85 35FC Blue/Cream on Ebay, although it is a
nice looking bird it has a few small problems which will need to be
attended to; dash A/C does not blow cold, all levelers do not retract
and the generator slide does not open, and no cruise control, and the
batteries may need to be replaced soon, hatchs & latches on the both
inside & out need attention. It had what looked to be near new
tires. All 3 top units worked great. but the dash unit blows but no
serious cold air. The bird looks as if it had been extremely well
maintained in a former life but looks to have been somewhat neglected
recently. It appears to have been 3 owners. Engine rebuilt - top &
bottom at 100K, odometer replaced at 103K and current total milage
around 111K. Paint is in great shape for a 22 YO Bird, neede a
serious buffing and wax job, it would look near new, under carriage
is clean and no rust, awnings look good but could use a pressure
wash. The bus rides and drives straight, good power and handling. I
would rate this bird a possible 8 out of 10. We are considering this
as our first bus but want to look at a couple more before we plung
into another expendable funds adventure.

Scott, my FC had the inoperative dash air. The 3 roof airs could enable meat
to be hung. My PT dash air is inop, also.

In my experience, none of these problems abount to a hill of beans.

My FC had the dash air disconnected, though the fans still blew for
circulation. Never had a problem with the front roof air keeping me
comfy, even on the hottest southern summer days. Yes, that requires
running the gen while you drive, but on a hot day you are going to
need it anyway as the dash air alone can only do so much.

Levelers are not a huge problem, I replaced the pump motor and one of
the jacks on mine. Sometimes they jest need a good lube to work
right. A rebuilt jack from HWH is about $250 if memory serves, and
the pump wasn't too expensive either. Of course I did save a bunch
by doing the work myself.

The other things (cleanliness, latches, etc) are minor and in my
opinion insignificant.

Just my $.02. None of them are perfect. Working dash air on an FC
is a relative rarity.

Scott,
I beieve that this subject has come up many times. Most people
agree that the fuel used by the dash AC is pretty equivalent to the
fuel used running the generator for the roof AC uits, and the
cooling is much better.

On my '78 with a 3208 NA engine, there is an added air intake that
uses the space where the AC compressor was. From what I have read
this is one of the best uses of the space. I don't know if it would
be useful for a turbo, however.
