We left 2 days ago from Texas headed to San Diego. I had just installed my new
Pressure Pro
Tire monitoring system bought from Stephen Birtles. Somewhere in the middle of
West Texas
an alarm went off. Familiar with Bird alarms, this was a new sound? I quickly
determined it
was the Pressure Pro system. A front tow vehicle tire light was blinking.
Pressure showed
29lbs, when it had been 36? I figured I had installed it wrong or it was a
malfunction of this
specialized equipment. For 10 seconds I thought "No Way"...couldn't happen to
me...not this
soon? Checking the pressure again it now shows 26. I got off at the next exit
and checked
the toad. The front tire had a 3 inch piece of steel rod sticking out of the
tire!.....so thank you
Stephen and Pressure Pro.....that was exactly why I bought it.

Rick, glad to hear about pressure pro. I did not op to buy from Birtles, but
may change my mind. Will you please report on San Diego camp grounds that you
see, I am considering this as a possible winter hangout rather than South Padre.

Ther are two nice places in the San Diego County area that I have
used. Chula Vista RV and Marina is south of the city of San Diego on
the shores of San Diego Bay. You would want a premium spot there as
the back ins are tight. Premiums are pull throughs.

North County vicinity is Outdoor Resorts Rancho California in
Aguanga, just east of Temecula wine country. It is an owner and
rental resort at the foot of Palomar Mountains, famous for the
Palomar observatory. It is very nice there in the winter although it
can get cold on some nights but usually never freezing (this year was
a 20 year exception; 2,200 ft. above sea level).

The coastal parks really are not suited for our size rigs. If one is
careful and can see the park layout, there might be a couple of
spaces in a park that can take a 42 footer but they are very tight.
Farther north in Newport Beach is the self-proclaimed "Ritz" of RV
parks, Newport Dunes. They charge like the Ritz at around $100 a
night. Nice place with restaurant, store, lagoon, beach and close to
fine restaurants and shopping.

There are a few others between San Diego and LA inland mostly. It
all depends what you might want to do. If you want waterfront, go to
Chula Vista RV. If you want beauty and a peaceful place, close to
many nice wineries, go to Rancho California. I own a place there as
do a few other Bird owners.

It will be nice to hear what Rich experiences since I certainly have
not tried all places.
