Well I just got the bad news that I need a new rim because the area
where the vlv stem seats is deteriorated and leaks air out very
slow. Is there anything I can do to fix this or just bit the bullet
and buy a new rim at a cost of $400. It takes probably four weeks to
notice that the tire is under inflated. Thanks Jon

PS. IF I haft to buy a new rim, where is the best place to buy one?

Actually, it is probably good news. Your life and the bus are riding on your
tires. Just my opinion.

Assuming you are talking about an Alcoa wheel, the best price/availability I
found when I needed one was Southwest Wheels:

I had a cracked wheel in Quartzsite, and the local tire folks couldn't come up
with one in a hurry, so I ordered one in and had it shipped directly to the tire
guy without problems.

Jon,
I'm no expert on rims, air valves or metalurgy but someone on the forum that has
that knowledge can better guide you. I do know when you mix metals say aluminum
rims against steel valves it can cause deterioration. I would certainly check
all the air valves to be sure they are compatable with Aluminum.
And if you are not sure change them all to a compatable stem. You can buy a lot
of stems for $400.00 dollars.

If the leak is that slow, putting some epoxy under the valve stem when it is
installed
should solve the problem. It would also serve as an insulator between dissimilar
metals.

>Great new today about my leaky valve stem!

I went out yesterday and talked with a good friend who runs an RV and
Truck repair outfit and he said that probably my rim could be fixed.
He gave a number to me about a repair service that mobil for fixing
truck tires. I called him up today and he came over right away and
now the rim is being repaired the proper way at a shop. But the best
news is that my on the road insurance is going to pay for the whole
opperation!!!! Boy I finaly get some money back out of that insurance
that I have been paying for years and years. So by this afternoon
sometime the mobil repair service guy will be back with my rim and
tire and installed. So as they say at KOA "I'm one happy camper"
