Hi,
I have 1987fc with a zf transmission. I am having infamous problem of
the tranny not engaging, I have lots of neutrals. I have gone over
some of the past posts, it seems that a common problem is low voltage
to the ECM. Where would I check this at, and is there anything that I
can check

I had this same problem several years ago on my 88 fc. Turned out a
spring had broken on the push button linkage under the control box. I
replaced the spring and problem was solved.

The first thing to try is the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It is a
rheostat/sensor connected to a throttle cable, mounted to the outside-
rear (rear of coach) of the battery box. If the sensor is not returning
to the idle position (jammed, broken return spring, cable came loose,
etc.) the transmission will think the throttle is wide-open and not
shift into gear.

Ron,
I also have an 87FC35. I had the same problem and it was resolved by
fixing the Throttle Position Sensor spring - as Jeff Miller has noted.
Even though you already have the right answer, I just wanted to let
you know to call me anytime to discuss 87FC issues, my number is in

Thanks to Mark,Jeff,Ray and rick for the help with my tranny problem.
The problem was a corroded plug connection on the throttle position
sensor. I cleaned it up, then wraped with electrical tape to keep out
moisture. Its nice to have the Tranny shifting again!

Ron, If its not too much work to dig back into, instead of just electrical tape,
I'd use the liquid electrical tape out not to really seal out the moisture.
