My coach seems to have a very small sewage tank and when in a park

PS. I think my sewage holding tank is probably around 36 gallons and my
gray one maybe 40 to 50 gallons

Hey Jon,
If your FC is like mine was (Dave's coach), the toilet and bath sink
feed the black tank, shower and kitchen sink feed the grey. Have you
looked down the toilet opening with a flashlight to make sure it
really is full, versus a bad sensor on the tank? Also shine a light
down in the tank when empty to see if you have a "buildup" of
material reducing the capacity.

I believe you may violate some code if you run black into gray. We
always keep both valves closed until nearly full, then dump black
first. Dump gray second and it rinses the worst of the sewage from
the hose. We practice low water use management when without sewage
hookups to avoid the drive to the dump station.

You can look on camping world for a blue sewage tote. You can dump a
small amount at a time and take the tote to the dump station. Thats
too much hassle in my opionion, but it could work.

Some of the new high-end (Prevost) coaches have a single combined
gray/black water holding tank so there's no practical reason that the
holding tanks can't be connected ... indeed, some folks have cross
connected the holding tanks to solve a gray water surplus situation
(I plan to look into this later on ... typically my gray water tank
gets quite full and the black tank is still nearly empty.)

You might consider simply replacing both the gray and black water
tanks with a single (larger) holding tank -- depending on the access
and plumbing situation in your coach.

I note that the tanks sizes seem small compared to more recent
'birds... but '78 was a long time ago.

Jon, My older Newell had a single waste tank although I believe it might
have been modified because I had two valves. I just left the "black" open
at all times and emptied with the gray valve. And with today's plastic
tanks..I don't think it would be too much trouble to modify it.

Jon, I bought a blade valve in quartz site a couple years ago that
replaces the cap on your dump pipe. Just remove the end cap twist on
the valve and then open both gray and black dump valves and you now
have one big tank. When you go to dump you just twist the hose onto
the other end of the valve. Works GREAT for extended stay's. I use it
on my fifth wheel trailer a lot. You can go to the local rv store and
buy the pieces and make your own for about $25.00.

Pete,

I thought of many quips regarding you're situation with you waste tanks!

I try to remember them at a future rally
