Has anyone change the amber side marker lights to the LED type? Were
there issues or difficulty in changing them?

I changed all marker lights and the turn signal side markers to LED. I had to
slightly file the rectangular markers to fit in the slot. About 4 hours. Got
the lights from Birtles

Curt, depending on the type of bulb used, you may be able to just
replace the bulbs with pre-made LEDs that fit the same socket. Would
save you having to replace the whole lens assembly. Check

Just my humble opinion. The sealed LED light fixtures are far superior to bulb
replacement. Everything is new and bright, including the chrome and lenses. The
sealed LED versions have lights spread all over the lens.

Ryan its cheaper to change the whole assembly
one to look out for with retrofits the lens was cast or poured and
designed for a incandescent bulb not an led
the led does not have the beam spread of a bulb and usually
retrofiittning them does not meet with the desired expectations

When I had a clearance light "go bad" I found the interior components
severely rusted. Despite cleaning it up with abrasives, etc. (where
it operated again) it soon failed again as the rust returned. The
advantage of the LED marker lights (in addition to their long life)
is that they eliminate the contacts that can corrode over time
causing a failure even though the filament in the bulb is good. (This
was, of course, just before I was to have a safety inspection by the
DMV.)

Ah, good call, folks. I'd forgotten about that, but you're absolutely
correct. The retrofit LEDs will not look nearly as nice and may not
properly illuminate due to their directional nature.
