I am a new guy to Blue Bird having just bought a 78 FC. It is a
stock 3208 NA.
In an earlier post I ask if anyone had a manual I could copy. I
have since located the manuals for my coach in IL and they are being
forwarded. Thanks for the help on that.
I have another question. This coach appears to be completely stock
and does not have a trans temp guage. Is it likely the 3208 NA will
develope enough heat to require a secondary trans cooler located
somewhere else? I have installed them on other trucks I have owned but
don't want to waste the time and $ if it is not likely needed. Thanks

Brad, my 83 PT40 has no such gauge. I just keep an eye on oil pressure and
water temps. I have driven a lot down south , so you kinda get the feel of it.

My 84 35 FC had a transmission cooler under the rediline compartment. Don't
know if this was an add on or factory installed.

brad----- a trans temp gauge is cheap insurance. will cost you
about 40 dollar or so and is a heck of a lot cheaper than a tranny
overhaul. you want that tranny to run as cool as you can get it to. the
more heat the less life you will have in it. get one, install it, and
read it all the time. the proper place for the sending unit is in the
pan.( i know this will cause a stir but lets see what others say. how
about it, who wants to say otherwise,and tell us why.

If your 78 is like my 80, it has a locking convertor. When the
convertor is locked, heat generation should not be a big issue. Once
you start climbing a hill and the convertor unlocks, heat production
increases quickly. On a steep hill, I think it is a major factor in
having the engine fan clutch kick on. I don't have a transmission
temperature gauge so this is an educated guess.
