4 months and two "almosts" later I have purched a 1985 PT 36.

I'm flying out tomorrow to pick it up. Then the 2200 mile drive
back to Riverside Ca.

Almost Congratulations! Where is the Bird at? Since you have timed
it right, on your way home you can attend the Lone Star Birds Rally in
San Antonio, Tx this weekend and then continue on IH-10 to your home
base!

Be sure and print out the "Member to Member" and "WanderRoad
Assistance" Databases in case you need help on the way home.

Bob Loomis, a Forum member, owns a 85PT36 and he knows his stuff!
Perhaps an email to him is warranted to get up to speed on
your "new" BIRD. Congratulations. The 85/86PT36 were among the
BEST BIRDS ever made.

Hello everyone,
I have been an intermittant lurker on and off for years. I have just
acquired a '91SP and am on the steep side of the learning curve. I
have what seems to be pretty complete documentation except for the
generator. I need to address a few items on the generator and I don't
know what the engine is. All I can tell you it is light green and the
generator itself is Onan. I'm guessing Kubota but I'm not sure. Any
help appreciated.

Hi all Richard here, just got my first bluebird, 1989 WLWB 40' Silver
Ed. Tolerrence ring broke on generator an drop armatur onto statdur,
replace generator,can't get it to start again, found that my starter
switch is shorted, any ideas on where to look for short?

I met Richard on the phone today....

He was a referral by a local big truck and bus drive train repair
facility.

He has a 1989 PT40 equipped with a Kohler/Yanmar 12.5 Gen.

Had some probs with the gen portion (not the engine) and replaced the
stator and some other stuff. The control box is original, including
the 3 relays.

Now that the install is complete, the yanmar won't continue to run.
Like a over-heat/low oil sensor shuts it down. The fuel shut off
solenoid is not staying in the run position.

Thats what I know from our conversations today. Ralph or someone, can
you help Richard with this issue?

Richard did not know of this site- does now. He has owned his Bird for
a few months now... survived a front tire blow-out on the way home!!!

Richard is a retired electrician and firefighter from Decatur, IL,
just 30 minutes from me...

I would start by opening the control box and dis connect the three remote
start stop switches at the terminal strip to isolate which switch or at
least part of the system. Then do a diode check of D3 between the common
and ground of the control box. Double check the plus and minus polarity of
the brushes and slip rings. I know that is all new butttttttttttt. Will
get out my book tomorrow and have a deeper look.

Does it turn over at all? or just dead? And when repaired, did some one tie
the Neutral and ground together?
