Ahhhhh- the joys of Bluebird ownership. I should have named ours
"money-pit". BUT-- I'd rather spend money on something that is steel, rather
then
something that might have a meltdown.

Long story but I decided to name my 84FC35 "El Soñador" because I must
have been dreaming when I decided to take on the project.

So far I have repaired the propane system (new LP detector), replaced
both dump valves, repaired the microwave/convection oven (fuse),
ordered a spring for the window awning this morning, changed the oil,
filter, and battery in the Kohler genset, repaired the roof a/c leak,
replaced the refrigerator (new Dometic 2820), and replaced the smoke
detector. Not much but it's a beginning...

I know the feeling. It took me about a year before I was sure I had made a
good move getting the BB. This group has helped a lot.

Keith. I just bought my 35ft FC a few weeks ago. so far I fabricated and
installed a new battery box. I used 3/16 steel plate with a piece of 3/4 black
pipe, that I bought at Home Cheapo, on the outer edge. It adds support, plus due
to the fact that you can still see the battery box, with the door closed, adds a
nice little roll to the outer edge. I sprayed it with Primer sealer then 3M
Rocker Shultz undercoated it , then lined it with some rolled rubber roofing
material, (all things I had on hand). I think another good idea would be to line
it with some JB weld that would be a cheap and efficent way to make a barrier
between the metal and the battery acid. I installed a new muffler ($67.00
available at Fleetpride nationwide) and a chrome 5" tailpipe, that I had kicking
around. I also started buffing out the paint and I used brown shoe polish on the
brown vinyl stripe Works great. that was another great tip I learned from a post
in here, in this forum. Good luck!

Hey Robert, how are things in Hollister? My next small project is to
repair or replace the house water pump. It has a tendency to trip
the 12v circuit breaker. May be clogged? My plan is to get all the
small stuff done first. Get everything working and then go for the
big stuff, like tires, changing the coolant, hoses, belts, etc in the
engine. I plan to change replace the belt, coolant and hoses, and
fuel filter on the genset this weekend. Service the transmission,
lube the chasis, and so on and so on... Then of course the cosmetic
stuff. I need to locate a source for exterior paint. I want to do
some touch up on the rain gutter area. Ah but yes, it's a labor of
love!!

Congrats on the Bird! The battery box is also on my list. But down
the list a ways... If it's in good enough condition I may have it
blasted and powder coated. I've had great success with powder
coating on motorcycle frames and a variety of things.... and it's
affordable. The chrome needs work so I may even consider the
bumpers?

Keith, I agree. Powder coating is a nice way to go, As far as my battery box was
concerned it was the first thing to do, on my list. The sides were fine, but the
floor was gone. I had to ratchet strap 2 of the new 4 6 volt batterys in place,
just to drive it home, Today I added a strip of chrome along the side to hide
the septic plumming. I used 2 light strips that came off of the bottom of a 40
inch bunk,on a Peterbuilt, and butted them together, so it's chrome with 8 yellow
oval running lights I bolted them to 2 pieces of 2" Alluminum "I" beam, butted
together, and polished to a mirror finish. those were the upright supports of
the swimming pool that I tore down Didn't cost me a dime except for a few hrs
labor, and it looks great. I'll be throwing on some new sneakers next week. I'm
also swapping out the air, for Nitrogen. Every day has been like Christmas for
the past few weeks. I really enjoy working on this old B*@^h. Good luck
