Ralph,
Can you tell me where to find the generator diode on my 86 PT40.
Also what it looks like.

Howard:

The two most used places were in the compartment under the drivers seat or
behind the front bumper usually attached to the front side of the wheel
well. Some were also placed behind the curb side grill to the engine
compartment and were in the lower rear corner but the strut that goes up.
The '86 had construction prints that placed it in different places. You
should find it in one of those three places though. It is about the size of
a dime in diameter and about as thick as 4 or 5 dimes with a threaded stud
on one side that is mounted to the mounting plate and is insulated, the
other end has a solder lug and should be connected to a large silver
solenoid mounted in the same proximity.
