Full Version: 8V92 Low Fuel Pressure

Curt Sprenger

I changed seven fuel lines...4 at the heads, Racor to fuel pump, fuel
pump to filter inlet, return manifold to hard return line.

After priming/starting the 8V92...Fuel Pressure readings were 8 at idle,
45 at 2150 rpms. Ran the engine for a few minutes. Fuel pressure now 2
at idle, 30 at 2150 rpms. The manual says 20 to 30 at idle, 50 to 70 at
2150 rpms.

A new fuel pump was installed. Same low pressures as above.

Removed the pressure relief plug, gasket, pin, spring, relief valve,
from the *old* pump. All looks good, nothing stuck.

My error, I did not take fuel pressure readings before the hose change,
problem could have been there before.

Thoughts?

I know Mercedes diesels can get dirty screens in the fuel tank. Don't know if
this could
happen in your case. Have you checked the flow out of the tank?

I should have added that you can test the tank by simply taking a gallon
container of diesel
and putting your suction and return lines into it and try running the engine off
the container.
It would exclude any problems upstream of your attachment point to the tank.
