Steve & Kathy Enfinger

Remember the problem I had with "check engine light" staying on ... I
found several corroded ground connections but the culprit turned out to
be the connectors to the DDEC II unit. Not visibly corroded but first
time I removed & then reconnected it fixed problem. I cleaned them well
& applied a dab of "corrosion block".

Now I need to clear all those bogus diagnostic codes. Can it be done
without hooking into test instrument?

If I remember correctly the tech at DD told me that all you need to
do is put in reverse and then in drive. If you turn off all 12 volt
power this should also clear.

Jim, I think Reverse is how the tranny codes clear???? The engine
codes stay stored but believe recent codes (read via blinks) can be
cleared as you say, by turning off battery banks.??? I remember a
RalphF post about code clearing???

The repair Steve made sounds like the repair Paul and Jo Carver made
to correct their 92pt stay running problem. Paul removed and cleaned
all the DDec connections and later replaced the engine batteries that
had a short which was determined to contribute to causing problems
with current and connections. The best way to test a battery for a
short or issue is to charge and read each cell with a hydrometer. On
my 94 pt the shoreChargers will not charge start batteries unless I
flip on the dash switch to tie batteries banks together.

Reference URL's
