In this month's FMCA magazine, a guy wrote in and said he was able to
make his Thetford toilet hold water again by applying a rubber
conditioner of some kind to the gasket, which had become hard. I am
having the same problem, and want to try his idea. Can anyone
recommend a good rubber conditioner?

You might want to try silicone plumbers grease, I found some at Ace
Hardware.
I use this on my waste valves for a good seal and also used it on an
old O ring that wouldn't seal (couldn't find a proper replacement). Put
some silicone grease on it and have not had a proplem sense

The product he used was 303 Protectant which is used to protect rubber, vinyl,
etc.
