I'm the pride owner of a 1965+/- Bus/RV with a Chevy 366V8 gas
engine, 4-spd. manual transmission, etc. that's a great old RV.

Trouble is - I had air compressor issues and let it sit for several
(count like 7 yrs.) and now I want to make it come alive!

I'm changing fluids, pre-lubing engine, install new engine monitoring
gauges, etc. before I crank it up. But my real concern is the clutch,
the compressor for the brakes, and the air brake system itself. Do I
go w/ what I've got and fix leaks as they occur or do I replace all
my air lines due to their 35+ yrs. This was a school transit bus so
it was built tough...in the 1960's though?

*Where can I go to learn more about my air brakes and how they
operate? I've got parts I cannot ID and I'd like to photo them and
ask group's advice!

**How do I attach photos to a post to this group?

Larry, It sounds like you have alot of work ahead of you but I would do the same
thing. Air brakes are air brakes no matter what vehicle they are on so I would
start looking around 18 wheeler shops or web sites or whatever. They work on the
same setup and they may help you more since the deal with it every day.

Larry,

Welcome to the WanderlodgeForum!

Look in the Files section for an Airbrake Troubleshooting Guide for an
overview of the system. Of course the easy approach is to fire it up
and see if you have brakes, before you just start replacing
everything. I'd inspect all the lines for obvious wear and tear or
breaks. I'd look for rust and corrosion on all the components if
there was moisture in the system while it sat. Does it have an air
dryer on it?

As far as the clutch, on that old a vehicle it should be just a
mechanical linkage clutch. If the clutch lining is/was good, there
shouldn't be much of a problem. It's just been sitting there
sandwiched between the pressure plate and the flywheel safely tucked
in bed all these years. It's either going to work or not. If it
wasn't glazed or worn out to begin with, it should work.

Good luck.
