Thinking about taking the musical horn system out of Rick's old bus and
installing it in our
WL2 which didn't come with one. Our coach does have a speaker up top that might
be usable
for the music output. Can anyone tell me what the key components of the system
are and
where they would be hiding in an '84 FC. Would it be difficult to perform a
"hornectomy" and
transplant operation? Hopefully, the old girl's immune system wouldn't reject
it. Heh, heh...

There are two switches and two thumb wheels to select the tunes.
The brain box is hiding under the dash , follow the Blue/Gray ribbon
wire, This is also a two speaker system.

Hey Eric, I recently pulled the brain box and had our horn
reprogrammed @ PMMI (Doug is a super guy)
Several threads said that the "black box" for the horns are hiding up
top, passenger side, forward of the storeage bin that opens. After
removing the covering, opening up the front area, (had to remove the
vhs system) etc The durn thing was no where to be found. Next
spot..hmm under the dash, behind the trim panel, in front of the
passenger. BINGO.

To access the box, it sits on its own shelf, hidden under the
passenger dash. I had to remove the front panel, which included the
Engine heat switch, (just the cover, the switch pulled through the
hole) and a couple of trim panel pieces. Be careful with the plastic
trim pieces they can be somewhat fragile and crack easily. They pull
off with a molded clip running down the middle of the trim piece. (I
did not totally remove them I simply pulled enough loose to remove
the panel) I also opened the passenger side of the outside front for
easier access to the screws holding the box on the shelf. Kinda tight
for a guy with big hands. But very doable. Good idea to have a pen
style extending magnet close by for dropped screws!

As Bill advises (he always has good advice) follow the gray/blueish
ribbon tape, BUT BE CAREFUL, the ribbon tape is somewhat fragile. It
plugs into the box with a clip on the plug-in. Per Doug, a common
problem is to pull, or yank, the plug without unclipping it, hence
pulling wires loose from the plug and the horn either not working or
working intermittently. You will see these wires are very small and
can easily broken, pulled loose in either rough handleing or
frustration :>(

Best of luck
