Hi Everyone,
I have a '87 PT40 and I am looking at adding a portable satellite
dish to my setup.
A couple of questions:
1. Can you bring the satellite signal through the cable input switch
to the satellite receiver?
2. I understand that there is power going to the dish from the
satellite receiver and that there is an issue with the amplifier for
the regular antenna which somehow do not allow the satellite and
reciever to properly communicate. If I can't go through the A C
switch in the coach can I split the cable input to the switch and
then go directly to the satellite receiver when not using a cable
setup?
Any other info is greatly appreciated!

you can either run a new cable to the receiver from the antenna or
feed it through the cable input in the outside door where the power
inputs are. There is no issues with the amps or the switches if you
connect it correctly

Well, I cannot tell you exactly how my coach is wired unless I go out and track
down the wires. It took me and a video guy a while to get it right. Here is
how mine works.
I have 3 TV's.
I have:
In motion Satellite Receiver box(technical name escapes me at the moment) L-3
TracVision
A-B switch in the coach.
Land line cable port (factory)
Space Ship Air Antenna installed at factory.
When my satellite receiver is on I receive satellite TV.
When I plug into cable TV, park supplied, and turn off the satellite receiver I
receive cable TV.
If I want to use the Air antenna, seldom, I switch from A to B and I receive
nearby stations over the air. Satellite TV receiver off.
In the satellite and cable configuration the switch is always in position A.
Reception is very clear in all cases.

If I understand your questions, the answer to both is NO. Go from your new sat.
stuff directly to the tv. If you are using the orig tv you might have to
install a switching box. If a new tv, I'm sure it has several inputs so the sat
will go to one of them. There are a lot of other things going on in the orig.

Not true Dick. Go from your satellite system to the sat receiver and
then from the receiver to your switch box provided by BB. Then the
output of the sat receiver can go to all of the outputs provided by BB.

Bill,
I installed a in motion satellite reciever in my 88 WBWL XXV. I have
a cabinet on the starboard side abovr the dinette that housed my
controller for the over air TV reception. I located all controls in
that cabinet, including the direct tv control box (rf model) All out
feeds via coax go into a switch box that then feed one of three tv's
and a vcr.

Tom,
I tried that and had trouble, no signal getting through the existing. And, the
sat receiver was up front along with a new flat screen with 3 inputs. You may
be right, I just was not willing to do more wiring. We took the tv out of the
bedroom so distribution was not an issue there and we don't have a tv outside in
a bay. Now when we want to watch local over the built-in WL antenna system we
simply change to that input on the tv and switch the bat wing knob as
appropriate, (tv or cable). Then change to a different input for the sat and
yet a different input for the DVD. I can't remember why I couldn't get the sat
signal through the built-in wiring system. CRS again, that was last year.

That wouldn't be the first time Jim. Although, as I just replied to Tom, I did
try going through the existing setup and had trouble. It's been awhile but I
seem to recall a problem with the splitters behind the switch/amp box. Maybe I
have a problem there and it just isn't showing up the way I using it now with
only 1 tv.

In my 1985 PT 40 setup (was the same for my 1982 FC35) there is a
switch with two positions in the small upper bin that houses the
switch and amplifiers and two AC receptacles. One input to the switch
is from the outside cable TV input that is in the drivers side rear
compartment where the AC inputs are. The other input is from the
overhead TV antenna. I installed a new satellite antenna and ran the
two output cables and control cable from it thru a new cable entrance
I installed near the goat rail into the inside overhead bin. From
there the control cable goes directly to control switch for the
direct satellite control box, and one of the satellite antenna
outputs goes to the receiver, the other is left coiled up since I
dont use it. I ran a new coax from the output of the satellite
receiver to the 2 position switch provided by BB, disconnected the
input from the rear cable TV line and connected the output from the
satellite receiver in its place. Now I can chose either the overhead
TV antenna or the satellite receiver output. I also added a modulator
and DVD player and routed its output to the satellite receiver
external antenna input. Now with the satellite receiver on I can use
it, or when I switch it off can chose the DVD player. The satellite
receiver has an internal switch that switches the output from the
satellite receiver to the DVD player when it is switched off.
