Good morning:

We, in Oklahoma, have just gone through an ice storm. With power outages on
and off. Last evening we were without power for about 6 hours and while
waiting for the lights and heat to come back on, I went out to the coach
and kicked in the LP heaters.

As the coach was warming, Charolette and I brought out the candles in the
living room, chatted about this trip and that. Then on a whim, I filled 2
glasses with white wine, grabbed the mini marshmallows and some tooth picks
and we sat there roasting the marshmallows over the candle flame sipping a
bit of the grape, and laughing like a couple of teenie boppers. Then off to
the coach to await the power company's efforts to restore heat. And
who said romance was dead?! LOL

A light snow last night with more to come, so the weather dart board says,
so I sit here thinking about past campfires shared and decided, those times
had nothing on us last night, we just made a boring evening fun.

Hey Ralph,

If it makes you feel any better, here in the Hill Country of Texas we
haven't had power at our home since about 6am Tuesday morning - maybe
today will be the day it returns! We have been iced in solid. Our
little local town of Boerne became a parking lot for 18-wheelers as
IH10 was closed. Just got back in to work at about 10am today
(Thursday) for the first time since Monday night, after a neighbor
helped move a downed tree in the driveway. Thanks to a wonderful
neighborhood gestapo, er, ah, I mean homeowner's association, our Bird
is about 5 miles away, safely tucked away in a shop with power, but we
couldn't get there! On the positive side, the house never got below
53 or so inside! This is exactly why we don't live up north any
longer, so it is definitely not a welcome event! ;^) Oh well, spring
will be here soon.....

Gosh you guys should move up to Alaska. Nice warm temperatures, sun shining all
day well for 4 hours YEAH RIGHT LOL.

Well, I reckon that eventually we are going to get some of that ice
storm down here in Hondo. I think that it was Tuesday PM where this
park lost power. Jack went out to the power post and turned the breaker
off. When he can back in, I held the STOP part of the toggle for the
generator for about 45 seconds, then pushed START. The genny fired up
and we had power. I was very comforted by that purring sound. The
park was really dark except for about 2 lights from other rigs. 40
minutes later, the park had power restored.

We were wondering about Mike and Sue Bulriss up there in the Hill
country. Didn't know that they couldn't get to their coach. Geez!! Sure
was sorry to read that.

Hello...
Curious about the omission of a "Comfort Glow" propane wall mounted heater.
(Just a brand I have as there are others) The "gravity" unit is 99.999% (I
think) efficient and does NOT need to be vented as it also has a LOS...
Have one in my basement... totally self contained, thermostat, piezo igniton,
really no moving parts and works. My regular furnace rarely comes on and excess
heat (if there is such a thing in winter) goes upstairs to keep the rest of the
house "warm". These are about $179.95 and are avaliable at Lowes and.. Home
Depot... This unit works whether there is power or not... $.02 worth

Well, our camp fire in the living room is out. Finally got power back
yesterday afternoon. First day (Tuesday) wasn't too bad as the house
interior only got down to 52 or so at the low. *Finally* found some
kerosene on Wednesday - at the bargain price of approximately $7/gal!
- and fired up the KeroSun heater from our days up north. Brought the
whole house back up into the 60s and acted as a cooking source so it
wasn't too bad. The heater was real nice with your butt backed up to
it! Glad the camp out is over though. Still have ice piled up around
the house and it is still raining off and on and scheduled for more
this weekend - temps in 40s rather than 20s though! Now the clean up
begins. I have moved most of the broken limbs off the house and out
of the way. Will be cutting trees for several weekends.

Come on spring!!!!

The thing to remember with any direct vent combustion heater is they
consume oxygen (even the cleanest burning ones). The rule of thumb is
you will need to provide at least 1 square inch of ventilation for
every 1,000 btu's. For instance if your unit is 8,000 btu's, and you
had a window that was 8" tall, you would open that window 1". If that
window was 16" tall, then you would open it 1/2". Another thing to
consider is these heaters introduce moisture. It works out to about 1
cup of water for every gal of fuel burned. The result is fogged
windows and a stuffy coach. Due to potential safety hazards, these
heaters are not recommended and must be used with extreme caution.
