I am setting several vehicles up to pull as a toad. I read that the
bulb in the taillight fix is the best way to make a trailer light out
of the toad but what is the problem with splicing into the existing
bulb?

Hi Greg,

You'll most likely get feedback voltage back into the toad's electrical
system, and that can be very costly repair with today's complex computer systems
in the newer cars. It can sometimes be avoided by using diodes (direct DC
current in only one direction), but it seems like most people don't like to take
the chance of killing their car's computers.

I read a post at least a year ago where a forum member suggested using a
toggle switch disconnecting the circuit to the car's electrical system when
using the toad behind the BB...sounded like a simple and positive fix to any
feedback problem...switch flipped one way for towed vehicle, flip it the other
way when driving the toad...something to consider...(I went the "add a bulb" and
direct wire system with our Grand Cherokee...if I was going to do it again,
I'd make a "light bar" that plugs into the toad's trailer hitch...Curt did
this with his Bronco).

I take the easy way out and order kits tailor made for each cars
situation, from:
http://www.blueox.us/
http://www.towingworld.com/

If you are setting up multiple vehicles for your own use, using one at
a time, I would do the magnetic lights for a one time expense, easily
transfered from one vehicle to another.

Greg,
Magnetic mount tow lights might be an option...not quite as clean as I
usually go for, but easy to transfer from one vehicle to another and safe as far
as the toads electrical system goes. Might look at these:

Several others to choose from, including some wireless applications I

Greg,

My coach already had wiring to the rear of the bus. I purchased the
diodes, ran a wire from the front of the toad to the rear and
connected to the diode. I cut the brake/signal light wire(s)
connectedthat to the diode, both on the In Side. Connected brake
lights and the toads towing harness to the diode Out Side. Works
great diode keeps the coaches electric form the toad! First one
probally the most confusing, then it just time consuming....but hook
up simple use the existing lights...As you know there are many ways
to skin a cat
