Hmmmmmm, I re-read my comments and I see nothing that implies that you
mis-represented anything. Anything you are reading into it is of your
own making.

I repeat: $50K is top of the market for what appears to be an original
83 FC (actually beyond top of the market IMO). More power to you -
sincerely. Since it was an eBay auction, where many 'sales' never
actually materialize, I do hope the money arrives. My real hope would
be that it might actually signal a turn around for the entire Bird
market, but I don't really believe that.

As regards hype, you and thee owner both joined the forum about a week
ago and immediately begin posting about the eBay sale listing. To me,
that is hype. Hype can be good or bad, but it's still hype and
working the market. It appears to have worked for you guys.

Since you and the owner both seem to have significant BB experience, I
do sincerely hope you will both stick around and contribute to the
discussion of Bird maintenance, now that the sale is over.

In the meantime, we appreciate real signatures and locations on our
posts rather than anonymous pseudonyms. And please re-read the forum
front page rules on post contents.

Merry Christmas to all.

This response is directed to the 1% of our members that don't "GET IT"

Mike, I'll second that statement. MANY times we have asked posters to do
exactly that. From now on, if a person cannot comply with the guidelines that we
have set forth, their message will be rejected and a note from the moderators
with a reason why. If upon subsequent reposts, and they still don't "get it"
--- off to some other forum. Actually us moderators have other things to do.

OK, I'll jump in...
I sell a fair amout of stuff on Ebay, it is a garage sale marketplace as far
as I'm concerned. I have sold everything from old service station signage to
Porsches, a 1988 BMW M5, motorcycles of a variety of flavors and the list could
go on. I purchased my 1978 GMC Palm Beach off of Ebay and originally found Pokey
there (by the way, the opening bid on Pokey was 20K, no one ever made an opening
bid, it didn't sell through Ebay). I like and dislike Ebay, but I have NEVER had
an Ebay sale bring top of the market, and I've sold some nice stuff. I haven't
monitored EVERY sale...but it has not been my experience that Ebay is the place
to get the most out of a sale. Are there often schill bidders, yes. Do auctions
often end early with a buyer who originally found the item on Ebay and then
works out a purchase outside of the auction, yes. Is this OK, yes. Do winning
bidders often fail to complete a purchase, you bet! My point is, Ebay is a great
selling tool, but unlike any
other I have dealt with, I take everything on there, vehicle descriptions (and
I agree that this Bird is far nicer than most, at least from the picures) and
selling prices with a grain of salt.
One point that has not been touched on is that to sell a vehicle for another
person really requires a dealers license. It does in Colorado and I am nearly
positive that it does in Texas as well. I bought a car on Ebay that was being
sold by one person and actually owned by another, it was a mess. Not that this
situation will be, but who are you actually buying the car from? Ebay does not
regulate if sellers have dealers licenses, it's not their job, but selling a car
for another person without a license is against the law in most states, it is
that way to protect the buyer, it's why I have to carry a bond. Just a word to
the wise...
Is the Rig nice? Sure looks like it! Was it misrepresented, not that I know
of. Was the activity on this forum part of an orchestrated marketing plan,
maybe, but while this is not the place for that, I don't blame them for trying.
Is that rig worth 30K more than Pokey...not in my book. In reality, items for
sale are only worth, in real dollars, what someone else is willing to pay, so if
the sale goes through, the rig was worth the 50K+...to someone.
It will be interesting to see if it resurfaces for sale someplace else for
sale, seems to be alot of eyes watching.

As someone who is in the market (although only for a PT40), I've watched the
sale and the discussion here with interest.

My initial thoughts were that the seller was getting a lot of undeserved
bashing. I'm a merchant, and I recognize the value of good marketing when I see
it. As it went along, however, nothing was ever done by the seller or his
representative to deal with the substantive questions, and that, at least on the
surface, makes the skepticism appear reasonable.

Specific things not addressed include the many questions about running gear and
operational equipment. They also include the very clear question as to why the
auction ended early and suddenly.

Finally, a note to Crusademan: The cutesy .......... writing style was
aggravating at first, and extremely annoying by the end. I don't know about
anybody else, but when people make me have to learn a different way to read
English just to tell what they are saying it is a real turnoff. It is also
worthwhile to only sparingly use the shouted capitalization of words for
emphasis so that they have REAL impact when they are used.

As a person now actively looking for a BB to purchase (finally) I sent
several emails asking specific questions and never got a reply. I think
that closing the auction when there is only a $100.00 difference between
the top two bidders, and days yet to go speaks volumes.

Doug said, "Was the activity on this forum part

----------------------------------------------
I was the person who initially brought this coach
to the attention of the forum simply because of
how nice it appeared to me and wanted to share.

I have no past or present connection with the
sellers with the exception I privately asked what
kind of camera was used to take the pictures.

While the price was hoovering at the 30K mark, I
guessed that it would bring 40K, about 5k more than
what I would value the coach just because marketing
on Ebay had extremely good pictures, and, a good
write-up as well.

Contrary to photos of this coach, I have seen
pictues on Ebay that were too dark and a person
had to guess what was there. What kind of marketing
is that for crying out loud?

To me, the pictures of this coach may look better
than the coach shows standing looking at it in person.
That would be a let-down, wouldn't it?

The seller agreed to one person's question as to
whether or not the seller would accept an pre-
purchase inspection of the high bidder, the seller
did not oppose this.

The bid surprised me bringing more than I paid for an
'87 in decent condition, however, life is full of
surprises, isn't it?

A lesson in marketing?, perhaps?

To Bob and all,
I always appreciate a heads up on things that I am interested in that are
for sale, or just available for viewing. It's a good way to stay up with market
values and I am always looking for my next "favorite" thing (much to the dismay
of my wife). No finger pointing intended by my post, just some random thoughts.
Best Wishes to all, Doug n' Pokey

I never felt like I was in the "spotlight"
center stage for starting what ended in much
controversy. Quite the contrary, I'm scratching
my head, stoking my chin, contemplating like
most everyone else.

I have witnessed what can happen in an auction
when the emotional side of the brain barricades
the logical side from interruption. Then, pause,
remorse sets upon the winning bidder with a
feeling of being duped by his own being.

Whatever happens at auction end, this has been
be a learning experience for most of us even
though the outcome will not affect us one penny.
