Hey Gang!


Having real issues with my three LP heaters. Sometimes they fire up and other
time they don't . Does leveling the coach have anything to do with this? I was
told this weekend that if I'm out of level, they may not fire. I've never heard
of such a thing, but with all the safety redundancy on this BB, I'm very careful
to be doubtful at the moment.

---Happened to me once..blower worked but NO gas flame...turned out
that I did not have the HOUSE battery switch on...just a thought...

Some thoughts:

Leveling should have no effect unless you are walking on the walls,
even then they would likley work.

You have LP in the tank; you have looked and cleaned out interior
and exterior vents of heater with compressed air or vacume; you have
sufficent voltage (charged up batts and/or inverter/shore power -
does your LP stove light up good, if my voltage is low, the stove
lighter/clicker sounds weaker); 12 vt.master under
dash and 12vt. electronic master switch both on (in driver side
overhead bin at rear of couch in salon in my '85); and you have
reset the LP alarm at bottom of refrige...right?

If your saying they are not blowing/running at all? Then it sounds
electrical...check power to the units.

If the fan runs, and unit goes thru the start-up cycle (fan start, a
click about 15 seconds later, but then not lighting off) and they
blow cold air, check the files for the surburban manual and service
as indicated: in summary, check the igniter for spark and tip
position and clean it. Check burner tube for mud dauber dirt. Check
sail switch for free movement. While around in there, check with
soapy water for leaks at joints.

On purchase two of mine were giving me trouble...i followed the
above and since, no problems. Fan, click, nice hot air!!!

As a suggestion:...this 20+ year old stuff can fail:

1: buy a new CO/smoke detector and keep a fresh battery in it. 2:
carry a small electrical heater also...just in case. Nice to have
in an emergency.

Thanks for your response. I didn't see any replies in my e-mail and
thought maybe I had angered the group in some indirect way. Come to
find out, my membership was bouncing due to undeliveralble mail.
Fixed that with a few buttons, somehow.

Anyway, thanks Frank and Henry for your input. All three of the
furnaces have worked within the last week, but not all at the same
time. Blowers on all of them work great and the spark igniters work
fine. After the spark ingniter quits, there is a clunk sound which I
figuring is the gas shut in valve closing the system off. This is
what you have described, Frank and I guess I just have a cleaning
problem ahead of me. They look darn fun to service in their little
slots.

The stove lights fine and I have about 3/4 of a tank af fuel in the
cell. I'll take your suggestion and run with it.

I posted this question on the Wanderlodge forum after I did not see
any replies in my email. Hope not to offend. I thank you all very

Dru, hope the cleaning works, it is a bit of a bear due to tight
spaces but the plus side is that you do not have to do this that
often.

One tip: Took me about half an hour to figure this out the time I
did it!!! You may see that the kitchen area furnace at first
appears to have almost no access...remove your bottom drawer and
then pull out on the lower trim section holding the vent...it should
pop off as it is held on by magnetic catches.
