I turned on the block heaters yesterday and tripped a circuit breaker. It
was a "solid" short tripping each time I turned the left heater on. The
wiring on our bird is run through a piece of hose. Pulling back the hose
showed that the wire insulation was brittle and missing in places. Each
heater has a connector so the power cords can be replaced independently of
the heaters. Holt Cat had the power cords so I spent the afternoon
replacing the power cords, installing a contactor so I could use a switch
with a safety cover to prevent the heaters from accidentally getting turned
on. If you plan to be in cold weather it might be worth a look at your
power cords. We will be in Nebraska or Wyoming at Christmas depending on
where our son is working.
