When the engine bay ignition switch is used is it normal to get a do
not shift light on the tranny shift pad?

Leroy,
Good question. I looked in our Blue Box and nothing mentioned. Seems
like a good safety thing...I don't want the Bird in gear when I'm
standing behind it.

I'll try and remember tomorrow to do an engine bay start and check the
shifter console.

Curt,
I think the bus is operating normally. The operator??? Well------???? After
removing all the electronic gear overhead to get at and repair my inverters for
the overhead EL panel, I do what I always do, check all systems to see if they
still work, what after moving and pulling wires around. Well, my starter would
not turn over. What on earth could I have done to cause this problem? Nothing
in the Blue box helps. I also noticed that day halogen recognition lights I
added a year ago were not working. I had power to their relay wired into the
ignition terminal strip to avoid leaving them on inadvertently. Off with the
key off. On my bus it's terminal 2 tied to relay SK 20 in the lower load
center. According to my schematics SK20 is a ECU relay functioning with the
neutral safety switch with the key on. I don't have any idea what else the ECU
does but with the front key on sends power through that relay to the shift pad
and engine test lights, that isssss if the rear switch is in front mode. In the
off mode or rear mode it gives me a do not shift light and the bus will not
start from the front. How did that rear switch get turned off? Two weeks ago I
shut it off while in the engine bay cleaning and painting. Did not want
anything stupid to happen. Like I said, the bus is operating normally, the
operator------well. However, if that relay ever fails on the road I think I
know how to by pass that circuit. Better yet I am going to carry an extra Bosch
breaker on board. Getting towed sounds expensive.

Yours should get a similar type of indication. Thanks for your help.

Leroy,
Just went out and started the bus from the engine compartment. With the
engine running, the Do Not Shift light does NOT come on.

The Do Not Shift Light and the Check Trans LED come on momentarily when
the ignition key is first turned to the on position from the drivers dash.

Curt,
Interesting, from the drivers dash mine is momentary also. Otherwise, it is
different.
